Lag in ffxi

Hey everyone

Before christmas i buyed me a new HP laptop with windows vista. After 2 days of troubleshooting and reinstalling i finally get ffxi to work on vista. I ran into several problems trying to install it. First i got the wrong version of playonline. (US instead of EU) Then when i had reinstalled the game and it worked i get low fps in the game. luckily the new driver (169.17) from nvidia helped me fix this, but i still have one problem. Everywhere in the game i get lag. Much like it is to play ffxi on a old system. I tried turning down the graphic but there it still some lag which really is bad in bigger events.
Is there any way to fix this, or is just because the laptop uses too much resources on vista? i suspect it may be something else since the rest of windows vista works smooth and fast while ffxi is running.

Laptop specifics:

Intel Core 2 Duo (T7250)
2048 MB ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

I've been futzing with FFXI + Vista + Nvidia card lag for weeks

Not worth the time/effort, just do a dual boot and setup XP on the laptop and play anything that does not take advantage of DX10 in XP

Yea i guess you are right. I have been through all the major forums now and still nothing similar to a solution.
