Anyhoo for the past year or so I have not been able to send/receive messages, when I try to send I get some sort of message error (19) and when i check my mail it never seems to get to me, despite there being the "you got mail" sound. When asking GM's/PoL staff about it they don't know whats up either, so I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and hopefully been able to overcome it? It's become quite a problem that I cannot add friends or check any messages. thanks.

my old computer had this problem, you can overcome it by reinstalling POL and FFXI.. have fun ^ _^

I have the exact same problem, and also haven't gotten anywhere with help desk queries. (I also don't have a full friend's list.) I guess I'll try a re-install on a proverbial rainy day. I can't imagine how long the update downlaods are going to take...

I've got a few bits of info to add about this "Failed to send. (19)" error message.

My wife's Windows XP machine was doing the same thing in FFXI whenever she tried to send a friend list invite for a long time. Her account on our PS2 worked fine, so it made sense that it had something to do with the PC installation only.

I tested a couple variations of uninstalling/replacing the user files only with no luck, but instead of uninstalling the entire thing (FFXI, all 4 Expansion packs and PlayOnline Viewer & Tetramaster), I just did a single uninstall for PlayOnline Viewer & Tetramaster only.

I then reinstalled it from the official installer available online here, re-registered her POL info and did the updates and it worked fine after that. The re-install was relatively short since the only updates needed were for POL Viewer/Tetramaster and not for FFXI.

I had backed up her user settings for the macros etc. just in case, but the backup wasn't even needed.

I should point out as well that if you try to uninstall it from the Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs list and for whatever reason it doesn't uninstall, use the uninstall option from the menu of the Vana'Diel Collection 2007 DVD instead. This is what I had to do.

I hope these notes can help others with the same issue resolve this problem more efficiently in the future!

iirc removing my User directory solved the problem for me. (You should make a backup of it though, to keep your macros)
