Duo on Golden Tongue

I have a couple of questions on Golden-Tongued Culberry

I have nin or smn to use on the sucker, and my buddy has RDM. We wanna duo him, but...

a) Does the RDM require movement to outrun this guy? Death obviously is the biggest concern.

b) The kite path is around the stairs or in the big room nearby?

A) No, but it helps.. kind of.
B) All around the stairs.

RDM can do it by himself without movement speed as long as he is smart about spell casting and range. You would need to kill the little pest tonberry that pops at the bottom though. SMN would be best probably since your avatar can easily solo the tonberry pop, then you can use Nether Blast on NM.

Side note: RDM should try PLD subjob for auto refresh. NIN sub is pretty useless and since you will be on SMN/WHM, you can do the -na's.

Predator Claws might be better, just have to use it when he is casting.
Nether Blast would probably do shit because his Magic Defense Bonus is pretty high...
Not really sure about it's physical defense, but I assume it's not that high.
edit: Also RDM solo would probably take a ridiculously long time to kill it because the NM likes to spam Cure IV at times.

If a pet gets hate on GTC, the NM will immediately turn to it and cast death... I'm not sure how much enmity a RDM would generate on him but that might make BPing rather difficult.

Don't need movement speed at all, when it starts casting just make sure to get 30' away which is usually very easy unless it is something fast like Silencega or Paralyga. It's MDB is really high but Netherblast should still do decent dmg, and you can try for other BP when it is casting spells. I would definitely bring Smn instead of Nin though, Nin would basically be the Rdm soloing it while you watch.

Eh pop it at night and a NIN could kite it forever. That'd leave RDM free for dots/nukes/etc

Either way should work fine as long as you stay away from Death.

It's sort of hard to outparse the cure spam at times as a RDM + BLM duo(similar for SMN i'm sure).. if you /nin you can deliberately let -4 spells get off to waste it's mp or sub BLM for aspir. Once it's out of mp it still doesn't melee, just sits there like a sock until you kill it :3

To expand on what Thorny said, I don't think he ever runs out of MP, but we have seen RMT killing it while it just sits there, no casting, no melee, no TP. Also, another friend of mine popped it and kited it around for a few hours with a blu casting MP drainkiss and I casting Aspir. It stopped casting eventually but the blu and I were still getting MP returns. Basically it is possible to get it to stop casting but I'm not sure if it's time based or just after it gets below a certain MP percentage.

Does the height cause issues for his casting? Because if it's the staircase I'm thinking of, it seems like he'd be pretty close... or maybe it's bigger than I remember

I don't think /nin is required at all, the times I've duo'd it we had Rdm x2. He was /nin and I was /blm (I don't have smn or pld sub lvl'd but that sounds like it could be really useful for this). If you just keep up blink and stoneskin you can eat single target tier 4 spells easily, most will be absorbed by Blink and even if it isn't then it isn't like it will 1 shot you, just gotta reapply stoneskin and cure yourself back when you get the chance.

That being said none of the subs are really that important, if you are uncomfortable eating a nuke you can bring /nin, but I think 1 more mp/tic or extra MAB and addition of aspir are much more worthwhile.

Fight started out with just me kiting on NIN and Athras keeping bio up and nuking as a mid-60s blm(he needed pendant and picked up a HQ knife cheap).. it went on far longer than it should have and I brought kazerin + asked blackmateria to help. Only mentioning this to stress that it was a very long fight.. around 5% it just stopped casting and did absolutely nothing until it died. I assumed it's because it ran out of mp, since that started after a blinked -4, but I suppose it could have been something else @_@

if anyone looking for info my smn isn't exactly pimped out only like 10-15 skill over cap(i know i fail) but pred claws was doing like 450ish pretty consistently except for 1-2 100 lame ones

Just to confirm: It is possible to run the fucker out of MP. SMN in my LS fought it that way, ran it out of MP, then killed it with his staff from ~90-0. Pretty sure he capped his skill that way, too
