    Any Jazz lovers? Appreciators? Haters?

No one ever talks about jazz around here, and im not sure if its because no one likes it or no one has brought it up before. Personally, it is my favorite genre of music. Was brought up with my dad listening to nothing but it, and to this day i love it as well. Every chance i get i go to jazz clubs or at least a restaurant with live jazz (in Boston or NYC). My favorites are definately Miles (the clearcut number 1 for me, first born will be named Miles), Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Art Tatum, Winton Marsalis, McCoy Tyner, Rochelle Farrell, the list goes on and on. Anyone her like, appreciate, or hate jazz? I'm largely curious as to whether musicians of another genre acknowledge jazz influences at all.

Its all good. My girlfriend doesnt know shit about jazz but is still able to go out with me and sit there and enjoy herself. I figure you two are in the same boat.

Being primarily a bassist, I'm admit my bias. Charles Mingus, especially after reading his autbiography, Beneath the Underdog, has been my favorite for quite some time now.

Mingus is a good bass player, love his songs. I primarily played Guitar in Jazz band in Highschool so I enjoyed more of the guitar jazz pieces than anything else. Gilespie is good muscian, so is davis.

I like three players on their team: Boozer, Kirilenko and Williams. I also think three of their key players are absolutely garbage: Harpring, Korver, and Okur. They would play Phoenix if the playoffs were today. I think they have a decent chance of winning that but I doubt they can make it out of the second round.

I consider funk to be a derivative or subclass of Jazz, so yea.

I couldn't say that I know any Jazz musicians or name one song. But I love jazz and if i were ever walking past a club and heard it playing i'd go in and listen til it was over. I love that style music when it's live.

    Lover and player.

Can't say I've played much in the past year, but I'll be getting back into a combo this summer. I wish there were more good places to go hear jazz around here. If there was a decent jazz club in the area, I would be there as much as my wallet allowed.

Personally, I dig the big band era (Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Dorsey brothers, etc) since that was what I listened to most growing up(for jazz at least). Stan Getz is amazing, Paul Desmond could take a woman's pants off with his alto, but for straight chilling, nothing beats smooth jazz. Not elevator shit, but stuff like the Brubeck Quartet, most of Stan Getz's stuff, Miles Davis played it a lot. It just flows through you.

I listen to many different kinds of music, jazz is one of my favorites though.

I am particular to The Yellow Jackets.

I love LIVE jazz. Key word is LIVE. When I lived down in Texas I got to go to quite a few jazz clubs and loved it. Now I live in montana and you might hear of one live jazz show a year. Really sucks. I find recorded jazz loses alot of what jazz is really about. The sound of a live jazz band jamming out for 15 minutes can be breathtaking.

I love Brubeck. His use of syncopation and stuff is amazing. As far as other stuff, I enjoy Miles and Ella a ton too.
