In case this is new information (it may not be, in which case go ahead n lock the topic).

My staff skill sucks.
Mind you, I've leveled to 75 on a mage job, but like most of us, magic skill, not weapon skill was a priority on the way.

In the past 30 minutes I've gotten 41.5 skill levels.. whilst eating dinner 10~51.5.
How?


1. Go to The Eldieme Necropolis [S]
2. Wait until a Fortification pops up (beginning of a campaign battle).
3. Engage w/weapon of choice.
4. Turn off the screen for ~30 minutes and do something else.

This is done without participating in campaign battle.. no risk.. no need to watch the screen.

I don't know where the skill caps for the Fortification. This makes for easy skill ups.

I've heard it was based on the skill cap at 50, so that might be what Shadow was referring to.

Personally though, I don't know.

On a related topic, are there campaign mobs that will skill you to 75 cap? Like the OP I didn't spend much time on staff while leveling blm, though unlike the OP I've been around long enough that I've done enough random shit that my staff is near cap (currently 237/240). While yes there are (many!) more useful things to do other than cap staff, when I don't feel like doing them, I'd like to finish staff just so it's done. Thus I've tried to go out & skill up on campaign mobs, without tags, in hopes that they are high enough to help. Unfortunately, when I took out my staff & beat on shadowhand in saruta for a while, no such luck. I wouldn't be surprised if there were NM campaign mobs who would be high enough to cap skill on, I'm just curious which ones they would be, and if it would be suicide to try it.

Sadly, no. I'm not sure when this change went into effect, but Fortifications don't appear until it says "The blah blah good guy brigade have begun their relentless assault on <place>." I'm in Garlaige with my 51 WAR trying to skill up polearm to make solo DRG easier, and between the time the NPCs finally arrived and the time they warped out, I had gotten a whole .1 and Aggressor hadn't even worn off. Another battle just started and I'm staring at the lack of fortification; if this sucks as much as the last one, I might see if Vunkerl is better. Beastmen are 30% and Windy is full here, whereas both bars are full at Vunkerl, so maybe a beastman squad might actually be sent out to defend it and keep the NPCs busy for a while. That, and their fortification is at 150 instead of 18.
