Fucking Ipod Problem, help

I've got an Ipod thats a little over a year old (outside of the warranty, of course). For a while it was just turning off and not turning back on despite the battery showing it was nearly completely charged, however either plugging it into my computer or a wall charger would turn it back on. Well, now its off, again, and nothing is getting it back on. I have tried plugging it into the computer before turning on Itunes, while Itunes is open, or after it was already open: all nothing. The wall charger also is not turning it on. I tried the soft reset thing, where you hold the two left buttons or the two top buttons at the same time, nothing. Its just a black screen, dead to the world. Of course apple tells me i can mail it to them and they will fix it for a total of around $100 (the can fuck themselves). Anyone have this problem or any other ideas how to fix it? Besides not getting an ipod next time?

I think I had this issue before and I think I somehow forced it to reset to factory settings then updated the software via PC/iTunes. I dunno, fiddle around with that and see what comes of it.

Im on my 5th Ipod now (<3 extended warranty) and only have had to pay for 1 Ipod to date- the original. I don't know what it is but my Ipods have a bad habit of breaking down on me and would cost more to repair than to have Apple just give me a new one. Ive talked with a few of my friends about their experiences and they have had similar problems with theirs, Ipods just seem to be hit or miss, get a good quality one will last you 5 years, a bad one 5 days.

qft. my original iPod brick is still going after almost 6 years, battery is starting to go, but i really dont wanna fork out £200 for one with video, or with such a small ammount of HDD space as a nano.

lol fixed my last generation nano also...didnt really try to fix it, because of my iPhone, but its nice now that I have something to leave in my car to play music.

Agree. I never update my Ipod because of this. It happened once, and luckily it happened while it was still under warranty.

For a $300-400 investment? Thats a fucking joke. My cell phones been to Iraq and back and still works just like new. Is it that hard to make a functional mini hard drive?

I think we'll see that the solid state drives should last a longer than the first few generations with moving parts.

you know you can replace the ancient ipod 4gb-6gb mini generation mechanical drive to a CF flash card right? it has the same goddamn connectors!

i bought the cheapest cf card off newegg transcend 8gb and wham! works like a champ it even has longer play time since it uses less power to read the memory card!
took me about less than 10 mins and you can even replace the battery to prolong its life even longer
