I think every BLM learns this the hard way. I know I did.
Not to sound all elitist (oh wait, this is BG, of course I do) but what the (
edited for newbie section) would a blm be doing with spikes up? If you could proc para 100% with ice spikes maybe, *maybe* it'd be worth it (though god knows we'd never get mob-quality procs on that) but in general spikes = you getting hit = you have hate, in which case spikes = more dmg to mob = more hate for you (though god also knows that spike dmg is marginal at
best).
If you're manaburning save your mp; if you're in a normal party (yeah RIGHT)/nuking in an event like dynamis/limbus don't get hate; if you're crowd controlling in a normal party/event you specifically DON'T want spikes up while sleeping/binding. That leaves what... skill up & solo? If you're skilling you should either be beating on a fortification or capping on mobs like steelshells, in which case nothing is going to make you an effective tank, least of all spikes. If you're soloing, there *might* be some minor utility in using spikes on mobs which you cannot sleep or bind, but the # of mobs which can *only* be grav kited does not justify the use of spikes on a regular basis.
Not to say there aren't situations where spikes could be at least somewhat useful, but I think the significant lack of topics on spikes
ever on this website speaks for itself.
