    PC Help

Hey I have a few general questions. I want to upgrade my RAM and add a sound card. The reason I want to add a sound card is because I used to plug straight in to the slot on the motherboard but for some reason, it doesn't work anymore. I have no idea what sound card or RAM to get because there are so many different slot sizes and crap like that in order for it to fit my motherboard. I went to 4allmemory.com and this is the motherboard I have, PX8 Neo-V (MS-7043). Can anyone help in telling me what size or type to get? Much appreciated!

depending how new your shit is, depends what type of most likely DDR ram your gonna need, if its within the last maybe 3-4 years its most likely a DDR2 your gonna have to get.

also depending how new your motherboard is might also depend on your soundcard, i think they have started making PCI-E soundcards, could be wrong though.

    Re: PC Help

Thanks for all the help, but I am still having a few problems. I installed the 2x1GB sticks and put them in the extra slots. So now when I go to control panel>system, it shows my PC is running at 3.00ghz and 2.5GB of RAM. After installing it, my PC runs slower than before so I called some friends. They told me to flash the BIOS or whatever and I had no clue what to do. So I went to the BIOS setup and I clicked configure for high performance or something like that. Now my PC monitor won't even turn on, but my PC does. Anyone know how I can get back to the BIOS and reset it back to the default settings? And how do I flash the BIOS?

Thanks in advance for the help!

A few things. First of all, don't mix RAM. Take your old ram out and use just the new RAM. Mixing brands can have negative side effects, its just not a good idea.

Second, to reset the BIOS to defaults manually, open up your case and take out the small CMOS battery that's on the motherboard. It looks like a watch battery. Leave it out for 5-10 minutes, then put it back in. This should reset your BIOS to the default setting.

Third, to flash the BIOS, you need to go to the manufacturers website and download the latest bios. Usually you have to put this on some kind of removable storage (floppy or CD normally) and then when you start up your computer, you should be able to boot from that disk and flash the newest BIOS. There should be more details on the website of whatever company made your motherboard.

Also, as for how much RAM your OS is reporting, if you use a 32-bit operating system the amount of RAM your system recognizes is limited to 3GB. Your video card memory is often subtracted from this too. So if you have a 512MB video card it would explain why you're only seeing 2.5GB RAM reported to you.

    Re: PC Help

Thanks again for your help. I think taking out the old RAM did the trick because my BIOS was already the newest updated version or whatever according to the live update. The battery trick also reset it to the default which helped the monitor turn on again.

    Thank you!
