Get Smart

I just saw it today. While I laughed my ass off at a few parts of the movie, it seemed like it was trying too hard to be an action movie rather than more of a comedy like the original series. Kept some familiar phrases and themes from the original, but otherwise it didn't really have a whole lot in common. Plus Steve Carell was just too good as an agent to be like the original. Not to say I would have enjoyed it more it there was 50% more slapstick, but it just didn't feel right.

I think I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't used to watch Get Smart as a kid on Nick and Nite...or if it were just a normal movie rather than a remake of the old series.

    Anyone else see it?

They made the main character so much different than the character in the series. I don't think it made it any worse though, unless you were going in hoping it'd be exactly like the series. I really enjoyed it.

I got to meet Masi Oka and bring him some lunch the other day when he was promoting this movie! He was super nice haha. My friend saw this movie over the weekend and he had nothing but praise for it.

Saw it, thought it was pretty good. Had a lot of funny parts.

Agree about Steve Carell though, the entire time I was thinking that he was actually a pretty good agent with minimal bad luck.

I saw it too, I had never seen the original series and didn't even know one existed until my parents told me about it after I saw the movie. Either way, I enjoyed it and it definitely had some funny parts. Some of the comedy was slapstick, some wasn't, but the slapstick comedy there was wasn't lame like slapstick usually is so it wasn't bad.

If you understand Steve Curell's humor then you'll like this movie for the comedy. Otherwise Anne hathway is hot and the action isnt half bad.

I don't care if it sucks. I'll still watch it for Steve Carell. <333

I saw it, I liked it. While I didn't appreciate how they changed Max Smart's character, I enjoyed Steve Carrell's adaptation.

I was a little disappointed that the original creators of the show (Mel Brooks and Buck Henry) only got consultant credits though...

But I have to ask, am I the only one that caught the Inspector Gadget reference in the opening sequence?

[spoiler:3fo5ot7q]Don Adams, the original Maxwell Smart, was the voice of Inspector Gadget. During the opening scene of the movie, I swear I saw something in Steve Carrell's character's notes that said "Doctor something Claw(Craw)" just like that. It kept tickling the back of my head until after the movie... or, I may have just been reading into it a little too much.[/spoiler:3fo5ot7q]

I thought it was a pretty mediocre film in terms of comedy.

Though, the swordfish incident and the flashbacks were fucking hilarious.

His notebook definitely had a reference to Inspector Gadget, I saw it at the beginning too.
