    Cooling system for graphics cards

I ordered a new pc that will be in this week with the help of Shue and Zosi, and this is the graphics card they picked out:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102747

Reading some reviews on the card, it says it has a tendency to run hot, and seeing as I'd like to try and keep my PC on more often then not, I was thinking of installing a VGA cooling system. Seeing as I have no experience with hardware, I'm wondering what people might suggest as an affordable and good cooling system for a graphics card.

Better to just buy a decent heatsink and fan to keep the whole unit cool imo.

With something like this; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835154001 you could OC that CPU we picked out too.

This is what I use for my X1950XT and my god it works like a charm. The only thing holding me back from getting a 4870 is Zalman hasn't come out with a compatible cooler for it yet.

Do you void warranties installing those onto a video card?

Wouldn't mind finding a means of making my rig run cooler. Even when idling it's been blowing warm air at me ever since I upgraded from a 6800GT to an 8800GT.
(and after having added in another case fan)

As long as you reattach the stock cooler before sending it in for warranty repair there should be no problem.

this is a good heatsink for new cards, it's a little large but it's to be expected with anything aftermarket. You can reverse mount it and have the cpu heatsink/fan assist with cooling if you use something like this: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...facture=Noctua in the vertical position. This may only work depending on the position of the chipset heatsink.

Playing FFXI shouldn't be as hard on the card as the games people are talking about, I have no ATI basis for comparison, but my 8800GTX runs around 60C in FFXI whereas it runs 80C in COD4 and upward in Crysius even with fanspeed forced to 100%. If you bought the PC just to play FFXI then I wouldn't worry about it until you actually get it together and test the temperatures.

a accelero s1 with the fan module should be fine and what I would get, playing ffxi could probably run it passive
