    router issues

    Basically I have two routers, one is a nice new Belkin (N) wireless, the other is an old shitty net gear one. Basically the net gear one still works better for some reason, wondering if the belkin is broken in some way or if it's just a weird setting.

    Breakdown:

    Belkin
    makes games generally laggier, d/c me from finally fantasy randomly multiple times throughout the day. If I or anyone else is downloading anything it will d/c me every 5-30 minutes until the downloading stops. Also when I run torrents on it with the wireless connection it will d/c my computer completely and I have to restart my computer just to get internet back.

    Netgear
    Don't know specifically what kind of router it is, just an old netgear, however I had torrents running on it for 2 weeks without any problems. I could download on it and play ffxi at the same time, and basically run anything in the house without lag or other problems.

    So basically - old netgear works well, new belkin sucks ass. Just wondering if the belkin is most likely broken, or if there is some settings I need to change to make it work. Would obviously like the new belkin to work as it has a larger range and other benefits if it worked properly.

    We have cable internet, I don't know enough about routers to know what settings to list, but if you can help I'd be much appreciative and can look up any settings or more info you need. Updated firmware on router.

    Thanks in advance for any help. If nothing can be done I guess i'll just go back to the old netgear one.

    Ok, I think what you're trying to tell me is that you have this old net gear router. It's nice and great but old and you wanted to update it to something new. Which is the reason you now have a Belkin, but the Belkin doesn't work as good.

    For a second there I thought you were running two routers... lol ^^;

    First off who setup the previous old net gear one? Maybe s/he has specific settings on that router that make it work better than the Belkin?

    Secondly, have you tried looking up your Belkin model on a techie forum or google for other consumers having similar issues?

    Home routers are very "plug n play" friendly. You don't have to set it up much and it just starts working with everything. Only thing I programmed my Linksys to do is wireless setup and different IPs it assigns. It worked just like that with FFXI and torrenting. No QoS, priority, or doing ports needed...

    Your best bet is find out what model it is and look for similar situations. If you have a techy friend have him play with it.

    Post the model here on this forum. Maybe someone might know something.
