Scientists Hack Cellphone to Analyze Blood, Detect Disease, Help Developing Nations

LOS ANGELES — A new MacGyver-esque cellphone hack could bring cheap, on-the-spot disease detection to even the most remote villages on the planet. Using only an LED, plastic light filter and some wires, scientists at UCLA have modded a cellphone into a portable blood tester capable of detecting HIV, malaria and other illnesses.

The test itself is quick to begin with. Although the CDC has been working on this technology for awhile now. The ability to use a portable, handheld device to analyze blood samples anywhere, anytime would make the job of diagnosing and treating outbreaks of diseases much easier.

I use my time machine to trial run hundreds of responses, most of which fail. The one that is funniest I write down, travel back in time to when I was a baby and wait until the thread the response is for is posted again, and then I reply with it. Pretty simple really.
