    Blood pressure question.

So about a month ago I wen't to the ER with lower left/abdomen & chest pain. And they gave me some excuse of a diagnosis called "chest pain". Have me nitrates and the usually painkillers, and I wen't on my way. At that time my blood pressure was 158/104. Which is really high I'm pretty sure for a guy thats 6'3 @ 176 pounds (give or take).

Well today I wen't to gastroenterologist since I've been vomiting constantly at night (probably stress?) after dinner. And they did my blood pressure two times and came up 145/90. I don't do regular exercise, but I am very lean and eat pretty healthy minus the usual hamburger or something every once in awhile.

Just kinda wondering since I don't know much about blood pressure. Are these readings anything to be worried about? I'm kinda paranoid right now so starting today I'm going on a limited sodium diet thats much more extensive than what I'm on right now.

Anyways thanks BG medical in advance.

Cholesterol can cause high blood pressure too, I would start with a reduced sodium (like you said) diet and include Cholesterol as well

So you've seen two doctors who've measured high blood pressure and neither has told you how to deal with it?

    Get better doctors, mate.

Not counting the ER doctor, I'm currently seeing 2 of the best doctors in this part of the state sadly. But yeah, neither has said a thing about it.. Yet they circle it in red when they pull my file. I'm going to bring it up next appt. which is Monday.

I didn't think too much about cholesterol, or transfat. Going to see if I can eliminate that totally from my system for awhile.

I also forgot to mention that my gastroenterologist has me drinking 2-3 vita drinks a day (those ensure-brand drinks old people drink for protein, etc.). Those have about 10mg of cholesterol each. So I'm guessing those are fine since I read 200mg is the maximum a person should take in a day?

The blood pressure you have atm is not something that should cause the severe symptoms you're describing. Little over a year ago my partner started coming down with horrible migraines and headaches with occasional nosebleed and went to the doctors and they measured him to have a 240/150ish blood pressure which is lifethreateningly high. Needless to say they admitted him to hospital immediately, kept him there for a week while they dropped it as fast as they could and he's been on drugs to control it ever since (he's a standard 125/85 nowadays). You have to remember that when someone has their BP taken by a doctor the doctors take into account a white coat syndrome (i.e. the nervousness and excitement of being seen a doctor). 145/90 is normal for someone who is in a slightly agitated state because their BP while at home and feeling relaxed would easily be 10 less for both readings. Regardless, keep pestering doctors if you think there is something wrong with you and even mild case of hypertension can get out of hand as you age and if your diet is bad. The BP you have at the moment on its own is not yet dangerous though, even if that is the sole cause of your problems I bet the first recommendation you'll get is to sort your diet out.

Your blood pressure is high. Based on recent studies 120/80 is really the highest you should safely be, and even that is now considered borderline unhealthy. Anything higher than that is cause for concern.

    And, what he said:

High blood pressure is serious business. To put it simply, the earlier you do something about it the better your chances of living longer.

It has to be something else you are ingesting. Or does High Blood Pressure run in your family?

Do you do drugs? Or even a Fever/Infection can cause High Blood Pressure.

0 high blood pressure in my family tree, never did drugs, smoked but only socially, and same for alcohol. Which I have stopped since November when the pain started.

So yeah, I'm going with diet on this one. I just need to refine and cut out all the junk and stick with the healthy stuff. Hopefully that will lower it.

Take everything you hear on BG with a grain of salt (actually don't since you have borderline high blood pressure), medical advice shouldn't be given on the internet, even if someone on here is a MD/DO/MBBS/MBChB/etc, they aren't there to evaluate you in person.

Lower Left Quadrant pain is commonly one of the following: diverticulitis, ovarian cyst, mittelschmerz, pregnancy, tubo-ovarian abscess, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian torsion, cystitis, prostatis, ureteral stone.

You're sure it's lower left abdomen and chest, not upper left abdomen?

Do you smoke? Do you have diabetes? Have you had your appendix removed?

I smoke on socially, like once a month when I was doing it if that. Same for alcohol. I stopped in November as I mentioned above. No appendix removed, no diabetes to my knowledge (or symptom wise at least).

A thing I could note though, is that I have been vomiting on/off every night around 3-4AM clear acidy fluid with no food contents. I know its no acid reflux though since I take anti acid after like Mylanta and it does not stop the vomiting. I've told my gas-doc this and he prescribed me prilosec and some 11.99$ prescription that prevents vomiting. Neither helps.

edit: I also sleep with my head elevated high since sleeping flat down usually can cause acid to come up easier. So I know its my brain just telling me to empty my stomach for some reason.

I haven't been stressed of recent, so I don't understand why I'd be vomiting in the middle of the night. As for the pain location it is in my lower left abdomen area under the peck and right where the ribcage meets. And if I was to shoot an arrow right through me (which would be awesome). The pain is in the same spot on my back. So I'm guessing its an organ?

Anyways like you said, I take what BG says very lightly. But it never hurts to have an informitive conversation in between my doctor appointments lol.
