    Anyone else just happen to...

Randomly become obsessed with a game or series?

Just happened to me with Half Life, I had played the series in passing, but something like an odd switch clicked in my head basically making me go buy the original HL anthology off Steam, as well as playing the Orange Box again.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Or am I just that weird.

    find my wallet?
kill a hooker and hide the body?
    make a useless thread title?

Becoming "obsessed" with Half-Life isn't so random. The guys who made the game spent a lot of effort on it.

Still not even sure what you mean with this thread, but they say every time someone mentions Deus Ex someone reinstalls Deus Ex.

I don't know what you don't understand, it kinda explains itself.

I did it with Castlevania. I used to like it a lot, had played all of the recent ones, before the DS games. More recently after several years of no Castlevania, bought my GF a DSi XL and I tried Dawn of Sorrow on it. That lead me to thinking about why I hadn't obsessed over them in the past because of how much I was loving them. I'm trying to beat all of them now (on all platforms).

I kinda wish Half-Life grabbed me the way it did you. People rave about it, but it doesn't do much for me. An hour or two into HL2 is all I got.

I didn't see what the big fuss about minecraft was until I saw a tutorial on youtube and decided to just try it for a hot minute. 3 hours later I was like "wtf happened."

I think that's the sign of a really amazing game, a game that makes you lose track of time, and makes you forget to pee/eat/etc.

Persona 4 did that to me. Made me go and buy P3 and the re-make of 1. Pretty much just played all of those all that month.

Tends to happen to me if I pick up a sequel or a game later in its series and I wind up liking it. Mostly been RPGs, though, which sometimes has the negative effect of stepping back into systems the sequels later fixed or built upon.

I think this may have happened to me. I used to like the original Halo alot, played 2, 3, and had some halo parties back in the day (which usually involved 10 plus people bringing their TV's, boxes, and 2 liters of mountain dew over for nerdfests(which I must say were truly funner than all get-out)), but for some reason I've become totally obsessed with Reach. It's a new game, so I don't know if it qualifies, but I can't stop playing it. I even started playing the campaign through on legendary, which is pretty much akin to self mutilation of the mind. That shit is so hard it gives me headaches (that's what she said)... I don't care if people want to say it's not, because they're either lying or just way fucking better than me on a biological muscle twitch and therefore unimproveable level

I can't even punctuate or make sense anymore... hopefully the difficulty will force my return to reality. Ministry's Rio Grande Blood playing in the background for supreme asskicking awesomeness, this game is fantastic.

I didn't even like Minecraft and I stilled played for like 2 hours, meaning to turn it off after 20 minutes.

I go through a phase about every week or so. 2 weeks ago I was playing through my Ouendan/EBA games, now I'm going through a L4D craze.

To be honest, I didnt find legendary solo THAT hard, every enemy has its counter.

    Elites are PP/Headshot Weapon
    Brutes Needle weapons
    Hunter's grenades/NPCs

    etc

I jump between games like that a lot, except it's more of a genre thing. Sometimes I'll run through an RPG binge, other times I spend hours without a thought in the world shooting people in various FPS'. I'll just run through the better/best games in my collection from that particular genre.

Yes, and it happens more than I like:

2-3 months ago: Ar Tonelico phase, where I replayed through 1 & 2 completely, completing all 3 endings in each respective game (went as far as reloading a save game in #2 near the start since the route splits off there).
Last month: Tales of the Abyss
    Now: Persona 4
