DCing on FFXI but nothing else

as what my title says, i log in then DC 5 mins later, I opened the ports on my router, reset the router, reopened the ports. I Just recently built a new pc, stayed with XP. I have no idea what the problem is, only way i stay connected is if i'm directly connected to my pc, not through a router.
I'm a bit lost at this point, any solutions?

I had the same problem, your router probably can't open enough ports to support FFXI. I just had to use my router's DMZ mode.

Does it look like the one in the diagram? And it doesn't matter if it's wireless or not, same problem. =(

I'm having the same problem. Internet and such works fine but FFXI can't stay on for over 5 min before getting 4002'd.
EDIT: I have a Linksys too, didn't pay attention to the pic. What's a good router to use otherwise? I'm gonna have to order one.

first time i've ever had a problem with this router, guess is dying, lol still have yet to try the DMZ mode, but i really don't wanna

There's no reason to be afraid of the DMZ mode. If you have a decent set of anti-virus and anti-spyware programs running on your machine, and even the built-in Windows Firewall, you'll be fine. Chances are there's nothing on your computer worth hacking over, and if someone really wanted to get into it, they would regardless.

Disabled routers firewall, still got windows running, works fine now! thanks for the help!
