RDM HQ Staves? And Other Gear.

Would it be worth the effort to work for HQ Staffs, Earth,Wind,Ice, Does Dark make a big difference?
Also i have Spider Torque as a Taru should i upgrade to Enfeeb. Torque?
Also is Elite beret or Wise Cap good for enfeebles that don't stick with rdm?
I know im also working on getting my Pent. Rope for BCNM 60.
Just looking for advice on making my self a better RDM from those with experience.
If there is anything else that could be said or gear that could be bought feel free to let me know.
As for Rare/EX items go, i won Goliard Clogs in Ny. Isle Floor 20 but I fast cast raised SAM and he didnt want to raise, so we got warped out and my clogs got lost =[[[

Spider Torque -> Enfeeb torque is a small upgrade. First focus should be on HQ staves. Order depends on what you do with RDM though. Just figure which Enfeebs you use the most and which you need the most and go from there.

1 MND is 1 MND. It won't make a huge difference but it is an upgrade(and the INT for INt based spells, of course). MP on steppe doesn't do anything after you actually dump that MP post convert/full heal.
Penitent Rope is an excellent piece for RDM, I'd put that up on my wishlist.

HQ staves are probably the cheapest, most important upgrades you can make for your rdm and carry over to other jobs you may lvl like blm, smn, sch, etc. buy them and make them an extremely high priority. staff order listed above sounds just fine. feel free to wiggle it around a little if pricing on one is way out of whack.

wise cap i guess is OK and will invariably outperform an elite beret but it's only ho hum. if accuracy is your only concern, off the top of my head the best rdm enfeebling heads are af2+1,af2, w mask, morg head, wise cap, then it's sketchy i guess. goli chappeau not bad if you want to try to push mnd higher.

enf torque is nice. it's worth getting. it's not worth freaking out over. 1 enf merit at 10k xp will do the same upgrade. get your merits done and when you find yourself with enough money to upgrade that, do it. until then, don't panic over a spider torque. it's fine.

p rope is a nice tool for a variety of reasons. just remember to macro it out when you're converting. if you come into a good chunk of money, witch sash is a delight with the extra 2 macc and no HP penalty, though it does lack the -enmity though you probably won't be sporting much other -enmity making it a marginal consideration at best.

    Yes.

Although I will say after coming back to the game after a long break (and having to build fund from scratch-ish), with merits and AF2 chapeau I haven't seen resists like I expected with NQ staves.

The difference HQ staves make while you are leveling is ridiculous. Also, if you don't have enfeebling merits (or AF2 head) they still are a huge boost.

Just get those HQ staves, in the order Tubbers posted them. They are often (but not always) the mark of a great mage vs a decent one. No, they help you do your job, whichever mage job it may be, so much better. They cut down on resists, they add magic attack to nukes, they are the best thing you could do for your mage. Hell, if my blm or smn was suddenly naked and I could only pick 1 slot to equip, it would be weapon for my HQ staves.

Have to say honestly the first HQ staff I would go with above all else is dark.

If you can't land a silence or a bind or a slow, it's not as life threatening as failing a sleep.

    But

    That's just me

Yeah, Pluto's is relatively cheap compared to some of the others, too.

In terms of order, before you can get them all, I went for Pluto's followed by Auster's just because if Slow or Paralyze didn't land immediately it's kind-of-OK but if Sleep or Silence doesn't land (on things they can stick to) it was usually a problem then and there.

Otherwise Tubbers and Spekkio (the Master of War!! yesss) are spot on.

(Brain caught up with typing: Must be ranking Aquilo's first primarily because of Bind, as critical to land the first time. I still bought it third. )

I went with Auster's first considering RDM was my first job at 75 and Wind 3 was my most damaging spell against Maat. >.>; Followed Auster's with Aquilo's and slowly started getting the rest.

Enfeebling torque is good when you're enfeebling mobs and all. But not something you'd wear to a bird camp exp party. xP

Tell him to home point, or else drop him from the party. That shit happens way too often.

As for HQ staves, Aquilo's and Auster's are top priority. Then I'd say Terra's and Pluto's are just about as important. If you want to fine tune RDM, go with Neptune's next, then Jupiter's and Vulcan's for nukes, and lastly Apollo's. But the first four will cover the vast majority of your needs. Try to find a friendly woodworker and help him/her whenever you can. ^^

I would have to say Wise Cap would help more than Elite Beret, along with other magic accuracy gear that's cheap or easy to get. If you're doing Nyzul regularly then you'll get Goliard hands and feet eventually I hope. Also, Omega Ring if you do Einherjar, Insect Ring from tier 1 ZNM, Balrahn's Ring if you've finished ToAU, and the elemental grips will all help. If you're in Dynamis or Apollyon (or randomly have dark weather) Diabolos's Earring works too. Stick to AF1 body and Spider/Enfeebling Torque, then just mix and match some magic accuracy gear with MND or INT as appropriate for what you're trying to land.

Since Aquilo's is the cheapest you can start there. After that Auster's and Pluto would be ur next priority.

I'd probably go hq dark > wind > ice > earth > thunder in terms of priority. I still use NQ water because I've never felt that Poison II was a life or death situation... and I have never owned a fire staff at all, so inventory+1 on that I guess. Fire is just one of those spells that I've never needed to use on RDM.

Since you mentioned goliard feet, I'll go ahead and mention that I love my mahatma pigaches. They are not all that expensive and the stats are really nice.

I still don't see the need to waste an inventory slot on a water staff. Poison isn't a highly resisted spell in the first place.

Well with 70 slots you should be able to find a place for it, but we're talking wayyy down the line of "priorities".

I was going to make a post about the exact same thing today! I'm leveling RDM and BLM at the same time, 54 and 52 right now. I purchased an Aquilo's Staff and Pluto's Staff right off the bat. I have some dynamis currency I'm going to sell, and after reading this thread it looks like I'll probably go for HQ Earth and HQ Wind next.
