Just bought a PSP 3000 series

Just picked this thing up today and dont know much about it. What are some handy things to do with this thing? What are some of the best games for it? I picked up FFVII Crisis Core with it and I have to say the graphics are far better than I imagined on a portable system (last one i had was gameboy color lol). Anyway, wanting to find out what all I can do with this thing.

    From what I understand...not much :\ unless it's a 1000 or 2000 series

From what I can understand, you can use it for pictures, internet, (can handle internet radio!). There's extra hardware that will attach to the PSP (Think it's out in japan now, may be coming to the US) that will take real time pictures in like.. 8megapixel? i think idk bro. Plus you got a lot of great games for it: Crisis Core, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (Metal Gear Acid if you're into turn based luck). This is totally not everything, but just some of the things I know about it. (And there's tons more games than just that. Just tired and such.)

This was a good /v/ list of games for the PSP. I can't say I hate any one of them (spoilered because it's huge)

If it's what you were hinting at, the 3000 can't be hacked (yet) afaik.

The "best" games for it however (in my opinion) are

God of War : Chains of Olympus
    Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G
    Tekken : Dark Resurrection
    Echochrome
    Final Fantasy Tactics
    Jeanne D'Arc
    Patapon
    Resistance : Retribution
    Wildarms XF
    WipeOut Pulse
    Killzone Liberation
    Star Ocean Second Evolution

I actually just modded a new PSP2000 God of War game. Its good it came with God of War cause the game is 1.5 gigs or something like that.

The games I have right now are all a blast, them being:

    Final Fantasy Dissidia
    Megaman Powered Up
    Megaman Maverick Hunter X
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (not Portable Ops+, just the regular one because Ops+ has no story mode)
    Mercury
    Mercury Meltdown
Patapon 2 (although I suck shit at this game, I'm ready to just give up at it. My Patapon fucking suck or my rhythm fucking sucks, I'm not sure which)
    Exit
God of War Chains of Olympus (REALLY good game, I was surprised how good it is)

like, I think that picture someone posted has almost every single psp game, because of how damn thin the library is.

seriously, there's not a lot of good PSP games--that picture has almost every single one, but it's missing a couple random things due to age I think.

Dissidia is amazing, wait for English version if you feel like it

if I think of something else I'll post it but um... yeah, can't think of anything right now. If they ever localize Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2, that will be an epic, epic game for us...

Picture lists 72 genuinely enjoyable games. At minimum. Even if you don't enjoy half of those or even 3/4 of those, that's still a good chunk of games. Do you seriously need 100+ games to justify enjoying/buying a system?

Have you seen the approved list of enjoyable DS games? Its about the same size.

Power Stone was one of my favorite games on the Dreamcast, it's a bit simple and can get redundant at times but the 'fact it's 1+2 in the same game makes it sooo very playable, very fun on the psp also

name 3 jRPGs that are not remakes in the picture that are worth making

and yes, I'm measuring the worth of a system by jRPGs, because I'm an asshole on a forum that only likes certain types of games

also there's a lot of games in that picture that are just old, old concepts that are redone... there's not a lot of new things in gaming now a days, and playing the same exact gameplay with different story/graphics/sound isn't exactly that appealing to someone that plays games for the game part of it only.

also I'm pretty sure that Krandor's list hits the nail on the head

God of War : Chains of Olympus
    Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G
    Tekken : Dark Resurrection
    Echochrome
    Final Fantasy Tactics
    Jeanne D'Arc
    Patapon
    Resistance : Retribution
    Wildarms XF
    WipeOut Pulse
    Killzone Liberation
    Star Ocean Second Evolution
this is the correct answer, with adding in Dissidia and maybe Phantasy Star Portable if that's your thing. DJ Max 1/2 are good (with the newer ones sucking), if rhythm games are your thing (and they're one of mine, <3 DJM1/2)

Like I also mentioned, and I'll do it again, TotW:RM2, when it gets a translation. Amazing, amazing game.

Almost everything else on that picture is an age-old concept that is ridiculous repetitive to someone that has been a gamer since 1990 or earlier (edit: That is, if it's actually a 'good game' in the first place, if it's not a good game [read: Metal Gear Acid 1/2, for example] then this doesn't apply anyway).

There is also a new .hack game in the works for PSP, .hack//LINK.

Yeah I did forget Dissidia, but that game is confusing as all fucking hell if you can't read Japanese, at least until it gets its stateside release.

On the jRPG subject, there's also Crimsongem Saga, but in it's current form (the "Asia" release has one of the single worst translation jobs in history), you need a healthy sense of humor to play the game. It is eventually getting a stateside release though, hopefully with a fixed up translation job.

I've not used a translation guide at all on Dissidia and I've got the game pretty much figured out, had my PSP less than a week.
    Pretty simple game, really.

Yeah I got dissidia when it came out and there were no guides, it was fairly straightfoward even though I can read some JP. A list like this helps alot, currently my PSP is filled to the brim with 4 games (Dissidia, Star Ocean 2, Tactics, PSO), because most everything I find for it sucks.

The only cool thing you can do is play the games listed, for now...

Playing Dissidia without translation assistance: easy

Owning the shit out of Dissidia without translation assistance: hard

Not really bro, only thing you can't REALLY read are the names of accessories/battle rises. (real Gs don't use summons, that's wack)
Well, maybe the abilities too but... honestly just equip one and then go into battle with it to figure out what it does and BAM, no translation needed.

I say this every time there's a psp topic but Brave Story really is quite good, it's not really new or innovative but if you like traditional turn-based jRPGs it's really solid, although the story is a bit bland. Probably 40 or so hours long, fun game.

Can't really do that with alot of the support abilities and stuff, but for moves that's all I did. Game is definitely easily playable without any Japanese knowledge. Only thing is you won't have a clue what to farm for when trying to make high level items.
