Criminal must warn victim at least 24 hours prior to committing crime against... wut

    Texas
A recently passed anti-crime law requires criminals to give their victims 24 hours notice, either orally or in writing, and to explain the nature of the crime to be committed.
This and more dumb laws can be found at Dumb Laws, Stupid Laws: We have weird laws, strange laws, and just plain crazy laws!

    What the fuck? Hahaha

Does that mean crime is...legal or something? I really don't understand that law. Or is it just another thing to slap onto someone when they are caught? Do they consider manslaughter as a crime (that's the unintentional death one right?)

I think we also have some law in the books where you can shoot a guy in the back regardless of the situation. Ron White had a good bit on it in one of his routines (some guy didn't like his death penalty bit he did):

"So some guy comes up to me backstage and says, 'Yeah well, you know in Texas there is a law that you can't shoot someone in the back no matter what the situation.'

And I said, 'Well yeah, but you can shoot him in the leg until he turns around. Eventually he's gonna get curious.'"

That would be my guess. Like the drug stamp tax - I'm too lazy to look up the law, but there is (or used to be, I dunno if it's been repealed) a law that said if you had marijuana in your possession it had to have a certain stamp on the bag, and you could get fined a ton of money if it didn't. Which was obviously bullshit since pot's illegal, and the law was only meant to add a second layer of punishment for getting caught. Reeks of double jeopardy to me.

The law doesn't state that you have to identify yourself. So just leave an anonymous note like "You're dead!" in chicken blood, the day before.

But realistically, it's a smart move intended to extend the severity of crimes. Anything to further punish those who are convicted with sufficient evidence beyond a reasonable doubt is a good thing.
