    Serious Crasing Issue

    UGH.

Some of you may have read about my issues in another recent thread, but rather than derail that one further, I made my own topic, because now I've got a new issue.

No more random crashes, now, I can get my character into the game and *poof* Playonline Viewer has stopped working. (I'm sure that the random crashing issue is not solved. It probably still exists. I just can't get into the game long enough to find that out.) I have attempted to log in several different times today, none of which were successful. My character loads on the screen, I can even take a step or two, and then I crash completely.

Nothing has changed that I'm aware of, with my system. I attempted to play without Windower, and while that worked, that's not much of a fix considering the game sucks without it. Completely unplayable to me. I then attempted to play with Windower but without any plugins, and it still crashed on load.

I have it set to Run as Administrator, and to run in compatibility mode to XP, that hasn't changed.

Right now I am running a file check, but I highly doubt it's a file error.

I have no IR devices to disable, UAC has been disabled since I bought this thing, and everything was working absolutely FINE yesterday (aside from the random crashing but even with that, I could still get in the game and, for the most part, play it), and now suddenly I can not get into FFXI and play the game. I even attempted a System Restore in the hopes that it might fix the problem, but no dice. Suddenly, the game does not work on my laptop. Windows Vista 32 bit, btw.

I keep getting an error saying "Sorry, the server is too busy to handle your request, please try again in a moment" when I head to Windower's forums, or I'd poke around there in an attempt to find a solution. Virus and spyware scans have come up clean. So far, nothing I can think of has worked, which is why I'm doing a file check.

HALP! I have events tonight. :/

They put in a very long /smes due to the emergency maintenance. If you're using an older version of windower, the system message will crash POL.

Hrm. I think I am using 3.3. I hope that's all it is. I will try to log in again once the maint is over.

I'm using 3.41 and getting the exact same crash problem. I log in and within a second or two the game completely freezes. Using XP; was working fine, etc.

EDIT: Looks like it's working now since they ditched the crazy long server message, woot!

I just downloaded 3.41 because I'm sick of the game crashing, but if the server message is gone maybe I'll be good anyway.

You should be using the newest version of Windower regardless, and you should also update all of the plug-ins you utilize, if any.

Also, did you try out any of the suggestions in the other thread? I'd like to add to them that you should run another 3D application and see what happens, if you haven't already.

Here's the contents of my most recent post directed toward you from there:

    A few recommendations.

First, since you're trying to run 3D apps on a laptop (and OS) which isn't customized for it, we should change that. Click the Start button, then in the "Start Search" field, type in "Power" and hit Enter. The power management window should come up. Change it to "High Performance," and save the settings.

Now, in relation to the driver error you're getting, is it within the nVidia installer -- saying your chipset is incompatible -- or is Windows Vista telling you the driver isn't signed, and it won't let you install it? You shouldn't be getting the latter error on a 32-bit version of Vista, so it would be curious if you are.

Do you know the driver version you currently have? The info from the executable would probably be fine.

Have you ever checked your laptop's internal temperatures? If you don't have an application for this, EVEREST Free Edition is a good choice. Install it, run the program, then expand the list under "Computer," and click on "Sensor." It'll be blank for a little bit, but eventually, the temperatures for most of the devices in your laptop should appear. What do the numbers look like while you're running FFXI?

Finally, to update/replace DirectX, download it here: Download DirectX Redistributable March 2009 9.26.1590 - A very useful application for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements - Softpedia
