final fantasy 7 in windowed mode

PC version, downloaded torrent, runs great.

But, how do I make it run in a windowed mode? I've tried -w and it doesnt work.

Normally I'd post in some other section, but its motherfucking FF7.

Could try dxwnd, or any other apps that give user-control over DirectX settings in any executable. (used to be one I used that was for DX7/8, but I can't remember the damn name of it >.< )

Be careful with the ultimate version, modding is very difficult since they initially require you to insert CDs. You can use the NoCD crack to get around it, but I forgot how. Just play around with your file folders/sources until you get it right if it doesn't work at first. Also, don't use the YAMP multi-patch that comes with the files, it's stolen and it fucks with your file sources making it impossible to work other mods.

And for fun check out these other mods/patches. They fix most of the general issues like unexplained crashes during chocobo races, the bike mini game going at high speed, and general glitches after battles. The 2.0 patch should fix most of these issues but there's patches that can fix separate issues. The rest of them customize the game and even update the graphics for newer video cards. Just figure out the NoCD trick mentioned earlier if it ask for a CD.

Here's the main forum too. It's dedicated to updating and improving FF7, 8, and 9. So far they've managed to come up with patches to make the world map characters more realistic, eliminate the 9999 damage limit, alter the graphics on weapons, and there's even a few projects to revive some of the original script and lost cutscenes so the story makes more sense. Check out the Phoenix Revival Project, Turks Mod, and Advent Children Mod. These are 3 alternate story lines that are 100% fan made.

Never heard of FF7 Ultimate edition, was it an official thing? All I ever saw in retail was the old-school yield-sign-shaped-box Eidos used back in the days, which contained a 4-disc copy of the thing.
(wonder where the hell the original box is....probably up in my attic somewhere ....)

I'm taking it the FF9 improvements are hacks to the PSX images? Never recalled it having a PC release at all, just 7/8.

Some one basically cracked the Pal version of the PC release and called it the Ultimate edition. It's essentially pirated and a pain in the ass to mod and patch.
I haven't messed with the FF9 improvements, but I think they're for emulator and possibly modded playstations. There was a PC version of 8 but never for 9. It's rumored that SE considered a remastered release of all the PSX FF games to Ps2 and PC, but never got around to it.
