    Microwave Pasta Cooking -- Help!!

I just moved into a studio apartment that has no stove, but it does have a microwave and toaster oven. I've read on some sites that you CAN cook pasta in the microwave, but every site says something different. Have any of you ever cooked pasta in the microwave, besides things like ez mac, and could explain how to do it?

Here is some pictures of pasta to make you think better.

    Fasta Pasta!

It looks pretty cool for 13 bucks, but you can do it with any microwavable Tupperware and some water.

How can you live without a stove? Seriously...Does it have a place to hook one up, or is there just no room?

The lady subleasing it to me just came over and apparently there was a hot plate in a drawer under some other shit, so crisis averted I guess? The funny thing is that she is a professional chef, but literally has no where to cook in this place.

Honestly, microwaves are only good to reheat foods & making popcorn. If I were you at least get a rotisserie machine (the compact ones, perfect for your place). Else, I foresee lots of canned food in your not so near future ;x

My brother has this weird plastic tube looking container that looks like you would use it to store pasta, but apparently you can put hot water in it and it cooks it right in the container. Unfortunately, he got it for Christmas so I couldn't tell you where he got it from.

I actually got one of them for xmas too, but it's back at my dad's in Gainesville. I didn't even think to bring it here cause I figured the place would have a kitchen lol.

Hot plate + toaster oven can make pretty much anything as long as it's small portions and you don't need to cook more than one thing at a time.

I'd never actually do it, but you can cook quite a lot of different foods using a microwave. There's entire cookbooks dedicated to microwave cooking.

If you make pasta in the microwave it will taste like crap no matter what you do to it. The microwave heats things in a much different way than the oven / stove will. I'm sure you know this but I can't stand microwave dinner food.

Fasta Pasta actually works pretty well. I've made lasagna and spaghetti with it and it tastes fine.

If you can boil water in a microwave you can make generic pasta.

I don't even own a microwave, I would probably starve if I had to eat microwave cooked food for every meal.

Guess having a hotplate works for the pasta, but it's going to suck not being able to bake or broil >.<

Eh, I forgot the name of the machine, but it's like a toaster/oven/rotisserie/broiler/grill/w/e; and very small too. Has a little compartment at the top to boil veggies, make pasta etc. Once you get sick of pastas (like it happened to me), dump chicken, meat, or fish. The only thing that fails are my cakes. Prolly my fault since I've tried to cook em in a regular oven too and no dice.

But yeah, as far as preparing pastas w/ a microwave, I get nothing but what it looks like toxic goo.

The only pasta that you can make delicious in the microwave isn't pasta. It's rice. And it's very difficult (or at least time consuming) to make properly otherwise: risotto.

The very high starch content of Arborio rice and requirement of massive liquid absorption makes ye-olde-dielectric heating work in your favor.

Basic Microwave Risotto - All Recipes
Lets you pick US/metric units and desired servings.

Different kinds of broth/oil/wine and additional small but strongly-seasoned ingredients (saffron, mushrooms, etc.) let risotto go along with anything else you are cooking. Cheers.
