There any Improv Comedy these days?

Mainly asking as I was YouTubing today and found out that "Whose Line is it Anyway?" was still capable of making me laugh to tears (I watched the dvd-bloopers for the first time), and then it dawned on me that I've yet to see anything like that show ever since it stopped airing years ago.

It can't be a dead art for sure as far as TV goes?

try look for whitest kids you know, though it's more skit based than improv, but I think their live show is mostly improv.

Reno 911! has a limited script and a very good portion is improv'd but I don't know of anything that is like Whose Line that's on anymore.

Mock the week is a british show. Haven't seen it in a while but some of it seemed on the spot, the rest was scripted comedy mocking news.

I think only the host has scripted stuff, the rest is improv.

Well some of the skits where they see a picture and/or an acronym (it's been a while so I can't remember the skit) and then they say what they think it is seems to be like they are reading from a script sometimes. Maybe they seem too clever to be made up sometimes lol

Is that the portion where they have to take a part of their skit and relate it to the show? If so then those are scripted, but it's been a while since I watched Mock the Week, so you could be talking about a different part.

Started watching mock the week again and I love it. The ones that seem not improv are 'if this is the answer what is the question', and 'headliners' They definitely seem to be reading from something off their desk but it may be that they were given prior notice of the thing and wrote down what came to mind before the show because their responses are in their comedy style.

It's also possible there is a screen in their desk showing the picture or word thing they have to make a joke about.

Frankie boyle is amazing too, easily the best on that show, the young blond guy is good too.

Yeah, Frankie Boyle and Russell Howard are the funniest on the show. There should be new stuff up, I should watch it.

Well it might not be on TV (I think the TV version is scripted) but Second City is a really good improv group. New members are constantly rotated in, and quite a few have gone big as a result of the group. Im sure you can find some of their live performances on youtube.

I still believe Wayne Brady was the best thing about Whos line is it anyway. His impersonation of the singing fish is seared in my memory by just how funny it was.

Are you kidding me? The Ryan and Collin duo are all I used to watch it for, those 2 are fucking awesome together. Weird how all the shows mentioned in this thread have been British, I actually enjoyed the British version of Who's Line as much as the US version, probably because it still had Ryan/Collin, Drew Carey is a slightly better host than Clive Anderson though I would say.

Seen enough SCTV back in the days, was very hit-and-miss for me. Bit disappointed that there really isn't much out there, but it's somewhere to look after I pay my dues and buy the Whose Line season sets.

[EDIT] Oh fuck, this one brought me to tears

What I guess what really makes Whose Line a goldmine of comedy to me is that even the participants psyche-out due to the sheer randomness of the fuck-ups.

Really? I found Ryan and Collin to be lightyears better. They were the main reason I watched the show, Wayne was funny but I would sometimes change the channel when he had to do is solo moments.

Anything solo in Whose Line was boring, which unfortunately meant pretty much every song Wayne Brady had to make up on the fly for someone.
