do you trust anyone else driving?

for me, i have to drive everywhere, i just can't handle anyone else driving as it scares the shit out of me.

my woman for instance, claims she is the best driver ever (I'm always right thought women always have), but if i ever get in the car with her behind the wheel, i can't look at the road at all.

    anyone else like this?

I agree I hate driving more now that I have in the past. I actually only enjoy driving when I'm drunk because I'm extra careful.

I trust very few people to drive for me, most people I wind up with my feet pressed against the floorboard trying to find pedals out of reflex.

Unfortunately, I don't trust other random people to drive for themselves either. Probably due to all the stupid shit I've seen other drivers do, was the only thing I didn't like about driving a cab, swear I was getting an ulcer from all the extra idiot overdose.

I think there should be much stricter requirements to get a license, I'd like to see people have to complete an autocross course in a set amount of time, cleanly, and pass an IQ test before being allowed to drive.

Of course, that would require better public transportation options as well...

I always give people a good 10 mins to prove me wrong. Most people fail however and i resume being scared as shit and looking for a phantom brake pedal.

I trust my mom to drive somewhat, but my dad... holy shit is he terrible. doesn't obey the speed limit, plays with his blackberry while driving (despite it being illegal in CA <,<), doesn't stop soon enough, etc...

My brother's almost as bad yet i still trust him more than my dad.

Ironically I'm the best driver in my family, despite hating it the most. I follow the speed limit, stop slowly instead of slamming brakes at last minute, and keep an eye out for possible crazies on the road. (southern cali has a lot of them, especially on freeways <.< Only gotten a ticket once in my 10 years of driving, and that was for a broken taillight on a shitty 20 year old car. (Fucking thing was a shorted circuit that kept breaking after 3 days, fixing itself, breaking, until one day it finally fixed itself. -,-)

It feels strange to be riding shotgun, just because when you're driving you know when you're going to break for that stop sign, or how you're going to react to that guy who cut you off. When you're with someone else you're still thinking of how you would react and get kinda panicky if the other person doesn't do it as soon as you. At least I do. I don't mind too much riding with others though, as I hate driving.

Oh man, my uh, sister in-law-in-law-ish person (brother-in-laws wife?) is HORRIBLE about the brakes, like totally relies on them with absolute certainty... it's like driving around with someone who randomly panic brakes.

*40 mph, yellow light... red light... 100 feet to go... time to brake yet? nah, I'm not RIGHT there yet*

Urgh, but the best thing she ever did, we were all at a restaurant, she was driving (to be fair, this was like the second time I'd ever rode with her driving), we go to pull out of the parking lot onto a 6 lane divided road with a 45 mph speed limit, right?

We need to go south, but there is a median where the restaurant is... she pulls out like she's gonna make a left, and apparently didn't notice the median... so she sees it at the last second, and does what any sane, experienced driver would do... turns to the right to get in the left lane for a U-turn...

Oh wait, no, she turns left, towards oncoming headlights a mile or so down the road.

I ask "uh, Kimberly?" giving her the benefit of the doubt, assuming she's gonna make a U-turn... she starts driving normally... "uh, wtf are you doing?"... we pass a parking lot we could pull in to now, and she's getting up to traffic speeds... I finally tell her to pull the fuck into the next parking lot, which she does thankfully.

Suffice to say no one questioned me when I said I'd drive us home... but man, I've heard of the "deer in headlights" effect, but I've never seen "deer driving the wrong way down the road into headlights" before then.

The sig was from the xkcd boards, ganked it from a random thread I was reading.

I consider myself better than my parents, but I let them drive. Well, I guess my mother has me drive her most of the time if we go somewhere, where my dad drives if I go with him.

I let the girl I'm with drive, after a while, if I trust them. Can't trust all women drivers, but usually any girl I fall for is good enough to be a competent driver anyway.

Funnily, my chicks parents thought she was a terrible driver, turns out they just make her paranoid as shit. I took her out in the neighborhood one night, switched seats, said to go up to the next stop sign and make a right, apparently SHE didn't know she drove fine when someone wasn't constantly correcting every little thing she did.

Had my license for 5 years, had 1 speeding ticket and only 1 in my family to not be in an accident and I am considered to be the worst driver. I agree with the 10 minute rule, you got 10 mins to do some good stops and turns etc, if you suck after that, I get a little weary. Also I hate road rage, patience..

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illusory_superiority

    Driving ability

Svenson (1981) surveyed students in Sweden and the United States, asking them to compare their driving safety and skill to the other people in the experiment. For driving skill, 93% of the US sample and 69% of the Swedish sample put themselves in the top 50% (above the median). For safety, 88% of the US group and 77% of the Swedish sample put themselves in the top 50%.[25]

McCormick, Walkey and Green (1986) found similar results in their study, asking 178 participants to evaluate their position on eight different dimensions relating to driving skill (examples include the "dangerous-safe" dimension and the "considerate-inconsiderate" dimension. Only a small minority rated themselves as below average (the midpoint of the dimension scale) at any point, and when all eight dimensions were considered together it was found that almost 80% of participants had evaluated themselves as being above the average driver.
That being said, I'm a pizza driver, so I see (and do) more fucked up driving that some people can imagine... I do feel that I KNOW the laws better than most, but I probably break more than the average person (mostly Parking laws, but I speed a lot too).

14 years driving, no accidents, even drove a cab for a year, I'm pretty sure most people probably shouldn't be allowed to drive... particularly the stupid fuckers who think they can jabber on a cell phone/text/do makeup/whack off/etc without impairing their driving ability at all.

You should see the Theory test where I live: A series of 10 Yes/No questions based on the Highway Code and then 10 questions where they point out a sign and ask you to ID it and what it means.

It's one of those things I'd be ashamed to both pass or fail just based on how retarded it is.

Between my test, my experiences learning to drive, and stories I've heard of how people I know drive I don't trust much anyone else with a car.
