The Lost Symbol (Dan Brown book)

Is it as good as the other two Langdon books?

I'm picking this up sometime next week...maybe tomorrow. I still haven't seen either of the movies, since I heard they didn't do the books justice..at all.

Angels and Demons movie was horrible in comparison. I didn't think that The Davinci Code movie was bad, but I didn't think the book was great in comparison to Angels and Demons.

About a 3rd of the way thru it, and it seems on par from what I remember from reading the books a couple years ago. but, like I said, I read them a couple years ago, so my memory might not be up to snuff.

Anyone who's both read the books and watched the movies... Should I bother watching the movies? I really enjoyed the books, and most of the time I don't mind when movies differ a little, as long as they aren't stupid when they do so.

Read the whole thing yesterday. It's definitely worth the read, and the mysteries/truths are a lot more eclectic than Da Vinci Code/Angels and Demons. It starts off slowly and even once it has you hooked at some point before page ~100 it doesn't get to the point of you not being able to put it down for a while longer. It follows all his typical plot archetypes that he has used since before Angels and Demons but he throws a few surprises in towards the end. My only complaint is that it is way too long(about ~150 longer than Da Vinci Code iirc). There is just way too much pointless exposition (he couldve easily shed ~50-100 pages, about half just in the ending itself instead of being a cocktease about what the 'Lost Symbol' really is. Also be ready for some corny jokes about Brown's previous books and writing style either through direct references Langdon makes or through Langdon 'remembering awful thriller books he read where certain words turned into ridiculous plot twists'

edit: movies gonna be awful btw lol. All the MacGuffins he mentions and tosses aside ~50 pages before he uses them will be a lot more obvious in the movie when only ~2min pass instead of w/e time it takes you to read.

I didn't like the movies much. There was some good casting though. Ewen McGregor was good. I liked Vittoria(was that her name? I forget.) too, although I imagined her being a bit more exotic/sensual..

I liked Digital Fortress and Angels and Demons the most (books). Digital Fortress strikes me as similar to an MGS game, plot.

I'll definitely read it although I'm not too happy about where they've taken the movies.

It was pretty good, but completely unbelievable, due to the fact that in the book, the Redskins are in the playoffs (this is coming from a Skins fan).

    Spoiler: show

Or the fact that the Solomons wouldn't remember Zach's eyes or the eyes of the man who killed his mom and would let him into the 33rd degree of the masons? There are quite a few flimsy pretexts lol and I hate how he presented noetic science as some groundbreaking shit that would answer everything about the universe when most academics regard it as the most spurious of fields.
