Becoming a more productive member of the sharing community

I've come to notice over the last year or so that I've had shitty returns on my time investment in the filesharing community.

I have also come to find out that my ISP is constricting my upload speed. A recent speed test from Birmingham, AL to Chicago, IL yielded a result of 1334 kB/s down and 399 kB/s up. The testing app also notified me that ISP upload compression was detected. As I am paying for 6MB down and 512 kB up, it seems I'm getting fleeced.

I have just modified my machine to dual boot XP Pro 64-bit and XP Pro 32-bit, on separate hard drives, which unfortunately required a total system format. With that being said, I am in the process of reinstalling utorrent and peerguardian.

In order for me to get better returns on my investment of time and be a contributing member of the community, I realize that I need information.

1) Is there a method for me to bypass my ISP constricting my upload?

2) Is there better software to use than utorrent?

3) What is the best method for me to use to procure an invite to a solid private tracker?

1) Call them up and complain you're not getting your full speed, see if you can force them to release the restrictions. You're paying for it, after all. If they refuse, threaten to switch companies, even if you don't plan on it. That should do the job.

3) Find friends with invites to spare, or offer to trade for one. Most sites frown upon invite trading, though.

To answer #2, that's a matter of preference and operating. Generally for windows uTorrent is percieved to be the best client, but there alternatives such as rtorrent w/ wtorrent (which has a heavy fanbase of linux and seedbox users) Deluge (another *nix program which has been ported to most platforms) and Transmission (originally a Mac application, since ported to most OSes - generally though of as the best client for macs, due to uTorrents limited functionality on the mac platform). Azreus/Vuze is another program with some popularity, as it is a mostly self contained program (integrated search of multiple torrent sites, inbuilt media playing functions and media streaming) - think of it as the KaZaA of torrenting.

Sorry for the semi-wall'o'text, just thought I'd throw some alternatives in there.

Should also check the torrent site you are using, some have restricted torrent apps/versions.
