For the past few years after a reading comprehension test a grad student did on me, I was wondering about some issues I had. At first, I was thinking it was some learning disability. I had a speech delay as a child and had to wait a year before starting K grade and even then I was taking speech classes. There was some issues with my short term memory with memorizing something during these classes.

Later on, I was beginning to wonder if it was ADD (I know that everyone has a little ADD in them so it was hard for me to justify this myself even after seeing some short documentaries on them).

~tl;dr version~ is I am planning to try Adderall that my sister has been using to see how it affects me. I know some people feel differently with what they take and may find one drug more useful than the other. My question is is the effects noticible on the first dosage? Was wondering on the experiences some people may have had.

Don't take drugs you weren't prescribed. Adderall is speed and WILL fuck you up. And yes, the effects are noticable on the first dose, dipshit.

You will notice the effects on the first dose (even if its at a lower dose than a doctor would prescribe you). I have taken adderall before and even though it was helpful it was rather harsh on my body. It was hard to sleep and my body was always tense. I would get terrible headaches that would go on forever. Dry mouth and a strange taste all the time. You will likely have the trouble sleeping on the first try and maybe dry mouth and the strange taste.

It might be helpful to try it when you have tasks that need to be done. Like organizing your CD collection or cleaning your room. I advise that you have a reminder you can see that says "don't be anal" because it may be difficult to avoid being anal.

It's becoming much more common now to use prescribed amphetamines to help individuals focus even if they don't have ADD or ADHD.

I took Adderall in high school, and it definitely helped me out a good deal. I stopped taking it towards the end of my senior year because I felt like it affected my mood too much. (It actually mellowed me, made me feel like I wasn't my ridiculous self) I took it sporadically freshman year of college, but I let my prescription run out when I took time off from school.

I'm currently in my senior year (hopefully) and actually considering getting it prescribed again, since my concentration has been out the window and now more than ever is when I need to buckle down.

My advice, go to a doctor. Don't take another person's dosage because it will not effect you the way it should, or the way you want it to. I remember when my doctor was trying to figure out my dosage he told me to take 10mg Concerta after starting at 5mg with no change. 10mg bounced me off the walls for a good 3-4hrs. I had so much energy, I wanted to paint the house or some shit. I eventually switched from Concerta to a time release Adderall, but you get my point.

tl;dr Go to a doctor and find out what's up if you really feel that you require ADD medicine.

Just to further add to what I said... never take someone else's prescription medication. Always consult a physician if you think you need to take something so that they can recommend and prescribe it for you. If you take someone else's medication it is not regulated and your dosage cannot be adjusted to your body's physiological processes.

I'm almost certain that, had I been born 5 years later, I would have been diagnosed with ADHD. I'm great at multi-tasking, but I can't focus on one thing at a time unless I really force myself.

Remember that ADD and other such diagnoses were over-used for a good 10 year period on children. Just because it's still a house-hold word doesn't mean it's accurate for every Tom, Dick and Harry that has trouble focusing on something.

Go to a doctor, let them evaluate you. Focus and learning problems could have a host of triggers and origins that medicine isn't needed to fix. Don't jump to pills unless you have to and you have the support of a medical professional.

basically, if you're truly ADD, you'll feel "different" on Adderall, but it won't be like getting high or drunk. if anything you feel like yourself, just... more. more attentive, more awake, more aware. like you're more of yourself. it doesn't feel like a drug though.

on the other hand, I hear from my non-ADD friends that taking Adderall seriously fucks them up. I wouldn't know though, I gots the ADD pretty bad, and stimulants affect me weirdly as a result. I was on ritalin as a kid all through my teenage years and never once felt high or speedy or anything.

that's just my point of view though... maybe it has nothing to do with the ADD and my brain just doesn't know how to handle stimulants. but I have heard from other people who are hardcore ADD that they've had similar experiences.

It's easy as hell to just list off the symptoms you "have" to a doctor and get your own prescription. Half the people I know from college are on some kind of prescription meds for a fake disorder.
