FFXIV - Religion, Surnames and Nobuo Uematsu

Credits to BRP for finding the ORIGINAL sourcing and to the site itself:

VG247 Blog Archive FFXIV: “Unique” setting to have own religion

“It will have its own religion. It’ll be a really unique type of world,” said Tanaka of the MMO.

He added: “This time with the world of Eorzea, what we’re trying to achieve is a very unique world. It’s going to be difficult to say whether it’s in the future or in the past. It’ll have some type of sci-fi element to it, and at the same time having medieval elements, so it’s really going to be difficult to say what type of world it’s going to be.”

VG247 Blog Archive Surnames may help FFXI-FFXIV character name transfer, says Tanaka

Surnames may be introduced help character name transfers between Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV, producer Hironichi Tanaka told VG247 in Cologne two weeks ago.

“We’re trying to find a way so people can transfer their names to FFXIV. However, for FFXI we had 32 worlds, and each character had to have a unique name in each world, so if they move to XIV there might be a conflict, so what we’re trying to introduce is surnames for the characters so people can keep their original names but add something else to it to make it more unique,” said the developer.

Tanaka also told us that FFXIV isn’t Final Fantasy XI-2, but steps are being taken to ensure vets from the older MMO can make an easy transition, should they wish.

“FFXIV is not going to be like the second version of FFXI – we’re trying to make a totally new game,” he said.

“However, to help the people that are playing FFXI, we’re introducing similar races… so they won’t feel total strangers to the game.”

FFXIV’s out for PS3 and PC in 2010.

VG247 Blog Archive Tanaka “very pleased” Uematsu agreed to score FFXIV

Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka has told VG247 he’s thrilled famed composer of previous FF musical scores Nobuo Uematsu has taken on the game’s full soundtrack.

“Yes, very pleased,” he said when asked if he’s happy Uematsu’s on board for the MMO.

“I’ve been working with Uematsu since the beginning of the Final Fantasy series. Even when Mr Uematsu left Square Enix, we still went drinking together. We’re good friends.”

Tanaka, speaking at GamesCom, added: “As he’s very busy, we didn’t expect him to do all of the music for FFXIV, but this time he kindly suggested that he would take care of the whole [score].”

That should cover most of the stuff...

From reading that, he just says that there will be a religion. Not wether it'll actually play a role in anything. There was religion in FFXI, too.

Ugh, I hope it is as far away from the FFX mystical religion crap as possible. I'm guessing the religion will have something to do with the enormous monster-god thingies roaming the world.

Also hurray for being able to name yourself Sephiroth the Sephiroth. That's much better than Xsephirothhxxx.

I like how descructoid stole from another blogger without even linking to the proper articles. What a garbage site.

Final Fantasy XIV will have a monthly subscription model when it releases next year.

That’s according to producer for the MMO, Hiromichi Tanaka, who was speaking to VG247 at GamesCom.

“It’s going to be 30 days-based subscription,” said Tanaka.
EDIT: Decided to go all out and drop some quotes from each link.

    LMAO holy shit they did.

I think most of the stuff said in the article has been said before except for the religion part. I agree with Trocian in that it's not going to be anything major like in FFXI's. I hope Uematsu will be able to out do himself. IMO FFIX was his best work (Uematsu's fav). We shall see tho...

I don't like the idea of surnames, because I can't think of one for my character. =(

For you it might be Siren, for your server (if you have the correct one listed on your BG account).

Does anybody remember if FFXI has a minimum character limit on your name? It'd be neat if, instead of some long ass name, you could just be "A" or "B".

EDIT: Looked on wiki, says minimum 3 characters

Or "you" or "the" or some other innocuous word, for fun with /emotes. I tried it with FFXI but the names were taken already.

If there are surnames, then "The Nidhogg" or "Your instincts" or "The Marble (Bridge Eatery is now accepting...)", etc. and more fun with /emotes.

    "Awesome"
    "Magnificent"
    "Totallycool"
    "Transcendant"
    "Vegematic"
    "Thunderpaws"

Alternatively, get a book on European history and look at some of the nicknames given to monarchs. I always liked "Ethelred the Unready."

Can't say I haven't seen it as a character name, but it's all yours. (We have the world's least agile cat, and when she comes downstairs, it's thundering paws.)

Poor Ethelred, so unprepared for his son's revolt. But we remember him fondly.
