TI-84 Plus Graphing calc help

so I have a student with the ti-84 calculator and we're having an issue with it.


Basically, we can't get it to plot two or more lines on a graph. Normally, with the TIs you just need to highlight the equal sign in the "Y=" menu. His will ONLY allow 1 equal sign to be highlighted. If I try to highlight one, the other one gets unhighlighted and vise versa.


I have another student with the same calculator, but his works fine. The only difference between the two that I could find, was that the one that works has a "\" symbol to the left of the Y1, Y2, etc. The one that doesn't work, has this symbol ">|". I can change the symbols but the only options are: ">|" ">" ">>" there is no "\" option. (all three symbols don't allow for multiple lines).

also note i did a factory reset on the calculator and still doesn't work.

Hopefully since there seems to be a lot of mathy people here, someone will know how to fix this lol.

Learn to do it by hand instead? I'm still using a slide-rule, I'm sure they can learn.

Hmmm, I have a TI89 and plot things just fine. Mine doesn't display the symbols you mention... Anyway, if you are plotting functions make sure the appropriate option is selected under "Graph" (just hit the Home button to display the menu).

To graph: just hit the Diamond key + F1, it will display a series of Y's like yours above. Now, every equation of the line should be inserted separately. For example to plot a straight horizontal (x=1) and a parabola (x^2) it'd look something like this:

y1 = 1
y2 = x^2
y3 = n+1

If the calculator accepts the value you'll get like a check mark to the left. Once you're done inputing your data, hit Diamond and F3 to plot.

sadly guess it's different, there is no diamond key for the 84, you just hit the "graph" button.

Try reseting the calc to its default option (no clue where the reset is on ti-84), but if it's an option that was accidently set, it will be gone after.

The icons you're describing aren't the graphing modes that you're supposed to get when you cycle through them (just in case it wasn't something you already noticed).

When you say you ran a factory reset, did you reset the archive as well?

What applications are still installed? Push the Apps button and list what it displays.

ya i found the solution, it was an app....which comes with the calculator...so retarded.
