Lycosa vs G15

So I'm looking to buy a new keyboard, I've had a G15 before but it broke a while ago. Does anyone have any input on the Razer Lycosa versus the Logitech G15?

The Lycosa is a tad bit quieter and has a nifty rubbery coating on the keys to keep your sweaty fingers from slipping during intense CS sessions. But on the other side expect the WASD or whatever gamer key set to wear off moderately soon.

I've tried both and still prefer the awesomeness that is the first-gen G15.

My brother's keyboard had that wearing off of WASD problem, but mine hasn't really faded much at all. Strangely, the fonts of the letters on the keyboards look different as well, so maybe I just got a different revision (neither are mirror editions btw).

I love my Lycosa, but I guess its just a matter of how much you would use G-keys. Lycosa has macros and what not I believe, but no real dedicated G-keys if you like that kind of thing. I don't mind at all, in fact I hated the G-keys on the left side of the keyboard which is why I went with the Lycosa in the first place. Anyways, I'm quite happy with mine, wouldn't trade it for any other atm.

I've had a G11, G15v1, and now use a G15v2. Love the size of the orange g15. I only use a few Gkeys since I slowed down on FPS games and play mostly wow now, but I couldn't live without the few I use.

I also use a G13... and a G5 mouse... I've never tried the other brands since using my setup although I'd like to at least try them, but I don't see myself ever getting anything different.

Mk1 G15 or gtfo. The new G19s are shit hot lovely though, might be worth considering.

and a 200 dollar pricetag, no? i just picked up a g11 on newegg for a bit over 40 bucks. as nice as a screen is, i just can't justify spending 5x as much for a little LCD. i'd sooner buy one of those USB LCDs for 100 bucks and stick it on top of the g11.

I hate that I can't charge or sync my phone off my keyboard.

I actually have both keyboards. I like the G15 (I have the original one) much better than the razor keyboard for gaming. ESPECIALLY for FFXI. I use the num-pad to move around in ffxi and when using the lycosa I -always- hit the keyboard light button and turn off all my keyboard lights. When you do that and it's even slightly dark, you can't tell which keys are which. I'm constantly having to stop what i'm doing and tap the light button to turn them back on. It's honestly fucking annoying.

As far as typing, the lycosa has short throw keys which are extremely soft and comfortable. I love typing on the thing and actually type faster on the lycosa than the g15.

Overall the g15 is just a better keyboard. Stick to razor for your mouses. I have the deathadder mouse which is the most comfortable mouse in existence (I had the lachesis mouse for a week before returning.. it was just too big).

I've only used my G-keys when playing mmos. G1-G6 for gear swaps in itemrack, G13-G18 for marking targets. Best reason to own a g15 keyboard.

Thank you everyone for the replies, it sounds like the G15 is the way to go. Heres another question though, since I doubt I can find a first Gen G15, should I get a G11 or a 2nd Gen G15.

Also I'd love a G19 but the price is just too high.

I'd still get the G15. The LCD screen is really nice for games that use it. It's especially nice in WoW if you play that. I used it for Dragon Age also. I'd give up a few G keys for the screen. I've seldom ever used all 18 of the keys anyway.

And yea.. g19 is just WAY overpriced imo.

edit: holy shit! the G15 only has 6 fucking G keys O.o damn I thought it had at least 12 on the new ones. Damn I may almost suggest going for the G11 in that case :/ Depends what kind of games you play and how often you'll use those keys :/ I use them a lot because I play a lot of MMOs where you can always use more keys

i have a g15, i love it, id never heard of the lycosa, but it looks like it has laptopesque keys, and thats a turn off for me =/

It has short-throw keys like a laptop, but they are very responsive. They definitely kick back at you, not mushy at all like a laptop keyboard. It's actually the most comfortable keyboard I've ever typed on, but I really just didn't like it for gaming and I HATE the touch pad to turn on and off the keyboard lights. There is no way to turn off that pad and I always hit it when playing ffxi (the button is RIGHT above the - key on the numpad)

still get a g15 for gaming though.

This guy is right about typing on a Lycosa. It may look like a laptop keyboard with its slim profile, but you have to try it to understand. I don't have the problems he has with it, but thats mainly because I don't really play MMOs anymore (so no pressing need for G-keys) and I am quite used to it (so gaming on it actually feels more natural to me now than the bigger keys).

I'd imagine both of those reasons also contribute to why I've never had the light button problem he's talking about as well, though I can understand how it would come up. It's not really a traditional button, more like a sensor thing that your finger just needs to glide over to turn it on or off. Kinda cool at first, but not particularly practical and I could see it being easily triggered accidentally if you move your hands a lot over the keypad and aren't used to the keyboard.

Ironically (or rather, hypocritically), I attribute one of my main reasons for not liking the G-15 to a similar cause. Being incredibly used to a zero g-key format, the keys on the left side of the keyboard always threw off my normal hand positioning. It really annoyed the hell out of me when they had G15s for SC2 at Blizzcon 2 years ago (first time I tried the keyboard) because my left hand would instinctively line up with the edge of the keyboard a couple keys to the left and it would throw off every single hotkey I tried to press. After awhile I'd notice none of my commands were going through and I'd remember why and have to look down and readjust.

Like with the Lycosa, I'm sure this would never come up once I was used to it, but as it is, I like having the edge of the keyboard as my landmark, particularly because I often use the edge of my palm to hit control in a lot of games. I have no doubt that the G15 is the best choice for a lot of people out there, but I'm still glad I went with the Lycosa.

This is true. I had to shave off quite a bit of plastic off the sides for mine to fit in the tray and now its pretty much stuck in position.

so they cause people to buy lower end tech (g11) instead so they can fit a few people's keyboard trays. sounds like a winner of a design idea. i'd have bought the g15 instead if it had all 18 keys, but as it stands, g11 for me. bad call, logitech.
