AT first sight the cheap coloured plastic bracelets worn by children seem a bit of innocent fun.
But in reality they are a shocking new craze for children as young as seven, and it will horrify parents across the country.

They are "shag bands", which are worn in thousands of primary and secondary school playgrounds in the UK and can be purchased for pennies on any High Street.

The different colours - black, blue, red, pink, purple, orange, yellow, green and gold - show how far the little pupils will "go" if propositioned, from a kiss to full sex.


Kids chase each other around schools and, if they break the band off the wearer's wrist, the wearer has to offer the physical act that corresponds to the colour of the band.

It is the latest in a terrifying wave of promiscuous behaviour which suggests that childhood innocence could be a thing of the past.

Just as shocking are "rainbow parties" - booze and drug-fuelled gatherings where girls wear bright lipstick of different colours to leave their "mark" on boys while giving them oral sex.

A packet of "shag bands" costs just £1 - but the true cost does not bear thinking about. One 12-year-old girl said: "A yellow band is the best because all it means is you have to hug a boy. An orange means a love bite and purple is a full-on snog.

If a boy breaks a pink band, a girl has to flash her boobs, a red band means you have to give him a lap dance and a blue is some sort of oral sex.

"The black means you have to go all the way with a boy.

"A gold band is the most important and means you have to do all of the above.

"They are pretty rare, so if you find a gold band in a shop, you have to get your mum to buy it.

"I don't think parents have any idea what the bracelets mean because all the kids at my school wear them and don't get told off."

There is a stigma attached to not wearing a bracelet and kids are more respected by peers if they wear the more daring black and gold ones.

The 12-year-old added: "In my group at school, the leader - who everybody looks up to - wears only black and gold bands.

"All the boys in my class wear black ones and if a girl wears a black bracelet, all the boys fancy her.

"But I'd be too scared to have sex - I wouldn't know what to do. For a while I didn't wear any bracelets and people wouldn't hang around with me. At my school, you have to wear a band to be part of the cool crowd."

While meanings for the different coloured bands may vary around the country, the overall theme for the "shag bands" remains the same.

The girl added: "My seven-year-old cousin came to stay with us - and she lives miles away.

"She said a green band at her school meant fondling a boy and that pink meant sucking his neck until you draw blood.

"People go around snapping the bands for a laugh and often you don't go through with its meaning. But I've seen girls who have been made to flash their boobs and kiss a boy with tongues.

"People in my class say they've had sex when somebody has snapped their black band.

"I don't know if they're telling the truth."

One shocked mother, Shannel Johnson, 32, was disgusted when her eight-year-old daughter Harleigh told her about the "shag bands".

Shannel, from Sheffield, said: "Not in a million years would I have allowed my daughter to buy them had I known what they symbolise.

"Harleigh said, 'If they snap, I have to make a baby with a boy.' I was stunned and immediately sat Harleigh down.

"I said that was something adults did, not little girls.

"When I Googled them, I discovered a site selling them and giving explicit detail about what each colour represents. There's also a Facebook group asking people which colour is their favourite and why. Most comments are from under-18s which worries me.

"The rate of teenage pregnancies in the UK is one of the highest in Europe - and is it any wonder with influences like this?"

While some schools and parents have confiscated the bands, many are still unaware of the meaning behind the bracelets.

Another shocking craze many parents are oblivious to is the rainbow party.

When the teen sex parties were discussed on the Oprah Winfrey chat show six years ago, it caused shockwaves through the homes of Middle America, where parents had no idea their children were behaving so badly at house parties.
Now the problem has arrived in the UK, where groups on social networking sites and internet blogs reveal an obsession with the gatherings.

One teen blogger wrote: "I love sex parties and try to arrange a rainbow party at least once a month.

"It's all we talk about at school and we always find a free house where we can get together.

"I'm a champion at rainbow parties and always try my best to leave my mark on the most boys.

"It's fun and the blokes love it - obviously."

Another says: "Some people think rainbow parties are an urban myth - but if they came to some of the parties I have been to, they would know this isn't true.

"They are awesome.

"Everyone gets drunk and there are usually plenty of class A drugs around. It gets everyone going."

One parent who overheard her 14-year-old daughter talking about attending a rainbow party was heartbroken to discover what she had been doing.

She said: "When I heard the words 'rainbow party', I thought it sounded nice and innocent - but after reading about it on the internet I am horrified.

"Every parent should know about these awful parties and make sure we know what our kids are up to when they are out.

"It breaks my heart to think my lovely little girl is behaving in this way."
