Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

    LET IT BEGIN! Maybe...
Either way, my own source says its on the way for sure.

    http://kotaku.com/5739152/report-mod...to-get-it-done

If we're getting a Modern Warfare 3 this November, it's going to come at the cost of an Call of Duty spin-off from the head creator of Dead Space, the Los Angeles Times reported today.

Citing "people familiar with the situation," the paper says that Infinity Ward, the studio behind the last two Modern Warfares isn't going to get Modern Warfare 3 done alone. Parent company Activision is enlisting the help of its Sledgehammer Games and Raven studios to make the game.

Infinity Ward's struggles are believable, given that the founders and dozens of key members of the studio were fired or quit last spring.

Modern Warfare games have usually taken two years to make and that kind of distraction would seem to have delayed such a schedule. Sledgehammer is a new Activision studio headed by two of the top creators behind the horror sci-fi series Dead Space, which is now made without them at rival company EA.

Sledgehammer has been working on a Call of Duty of its own, one originally thought to be a third-person game but more recently touted as a first-person shooter. The Times reports that Sledgehammer is working on Modern Warfare 3's single-player with Infinity Ward and that Raven, the studio behind many shooters and action games including last year's Singularity, is helping with multiplayer.

Activision has clarified up none of this, but did tell Kotaku today that "There's been much speculation recently. We look forward to releasing details for the next Call of Duty in the near future."

Activision calls in reinforcements for next Call of Duty game
    January 20, 2011 | 11:34 am
When the heads of Infinity Ward, the game development studio that created the hit Call of Duty series, were fired last March and most of their top talent quit soon after, publisher Activision Blizzard, said it didn't expect the turmoil to affect operations.

However, Infinity Ward's operations apparently have been affected enough that it has called in reinforcements to make the next Call of Duty military game. The studio was able to pull off prior games without aid, as it did with 2008's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 2006's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Activision has quietly tapped Sledgehammer Games, a Northern California studio, to help out with the making of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, according to people familiar with the situation. The game has not been officially announced by Activision. But the title is well into production and is expected to come out in November, the same month that the publisher has annually released a new Call of Duty installment, people with knowledge of situation said. Modern Warfare 3 will be the first game Infinity Ward has produced since the departure of of company co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella.

People close to the matter said Infinity Ward is working closely with Sledgehammer, which is led by a team recruited away from Activision's rival Electronic Arts Inc. The two studios are equally sharing duties of producing the single-player portion of the game, the sources said.

Activision has also brought in Wisconsin-based Raven Software, which is working on the online multi-player elements for Modern Warfare 3, sources said.

The decision to seek outside help is a departure for Activision, which in the past has left Infinity Ward alone to develop the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games. The approach paid off, as the last two Modern Warfare games sold 13 million and 20 million units, respectively.

But pulling in the Sledgehammer team to help out on Modern Warfare 3 is creating a domino effect by forcing Activision to delay the start of production on a new Call of Duty spin-off game that the studio had begun working on before the upheaval at Infinity Ward, the people said.

This isn't just war games, as it were. Producing Call of Duty games on an annual schedule is critical to Activision. It's one of two franchises -- along with World of Warcraft -- upon which the video game giant is dependent for most of its revenue. So missing a release date or rushing out a game before it's ready could upset the company's projected revenue.

Call of Duty: Black Ops, produced by Activision studio Treyarch in 2010, was the best-selling video game in the U.S. last year, as was Modern Warfare 2 in 2009.

A spokesman for Activision declined to comment.

I love Black Ops, I really do... but theres something I miss about MW/MW2 I really miss. It seems very subtle but enough to make me miss it whenever I play Black Ops. I just moved and did not have internet for about a week. I played through the champaign of all 3 again and had forgotten how excited I was for MW2 not just for its multiplayer, but its single player. Plot holes included, It was incredibly impressive. Lets hope they deliver again and wrap up the store nicely.

The gal that works for Activision I know never says anything concrete, but they feel they have to "finish the fight" and guaranteed a MW3. I actually thought it was going to be a 2012 release, but it looks like it could be Nov. If they follow past announcements, we should see something within the next month.

IW got shafted on the multiplayer side of the game big surprise. Raven gets a crack let's see what happens.

this a million times. I really do miss mw2 but the last few times that I logged on it blew horses with all the hackers now. and blops just doesn't cover it for me. I did really enjoy the modern warfare campaigns though, so I am excited about how this will end.

I envision this series to at least hit 12+ CODs considering they make a considerably large amount of money each time. Long as Treyarch dont make anymore because they suck.

I believe they've become Respawn (or something?) but I haven't seen any plans for games they're developing. Currently the devs for any new CoD games as far as I know are Sledgehammer, Raven Studios, and Treyarch.

As much as I liked and love "modern warfare" I just feel that this successor isn't going to provide the same gaming feel. I hope I'm wrong but with the heads of IW gone I can't see the game going in the same direction as the others did. I loved the story too unlike that garbage Blops gives and I hope they do a better job I really do.

Lol says the guy who Ebayed gran turismo 5 after 4 hours of play.

I'm iffy about the different developers, but if they stay consistent on fixing issues on multiplayer then we'll have a good game on our hands.

However i'm not familiar w/ raven studios, refresh me on good games they developed?

I guess deaths are quite profitable. I think billions of dollars in pure profit would like to have a word with you.

PC-wise, I agree with Sruon. MW2 was fun on the PS3 imo though.
