I had heard he was paid a Mil for a new year's gig (couldn't find any sources for this), and according to wiki he held a concert on Ipanema Beach with 250,000 people there (wtf) being the 2nd largest concert ever
I just kinda don't get the hype though, listening to him now on youtube, his Elements of Life concert

there's nothing distinguishing about his music per se. he's just a consistent producer of that euro/trance sound. he wasn't first for anything, but he's been there since the mid 90s and that means he's got quite a reputation.
