I have a favorite student. You're not really supposed to pick favorites, but it's unavoidable. She's very hardworking and sweet. She became my favorite after she kicked the class bully in the mouth when he made fun of her favorite teddy bear. I also had one-on-one time with her to help develop her pronunciation and speaking fluency, and I found out that she was one of the easiest students to work with and actually enjoyed learning/studying.

But lately, she's been getting a little too affectionate. Most little kids, especially girls, tend to be quite affectionate but you can still notice an individual change in behavior. Holding onto my arm, playing with my hair, and trying to lift up my shirt. I realize though that it's pretty normal for children that age to develop little crushes on the adults in their lives. But, there's still a level of awkwardness and wanting to say "for chrissakes stop, you're 5. do not want".

There's nothing he can really do without it being awkward. He could do something to get the girl to like him less, but to like him less may accidentally lead to liking learning from him less.

He could wait until she moves on, but this of course is contingent that on that there's someone else for her to be infatuated... so it may not happen.

You just basically ruined her adolescence. Once you tell her that she either has to stop or it goes too far, she's never going to see men the same way. She will live a life of remorse and regrets based around a lack of self-confidence due to her perception of rejection and abandonment. At some point, she'll hit puberty and those perceptions will be set in stone. You created a learned helplessness that will not be cured. I hope you are proud of yourself.
