Final Fantasy XI/ATI Driver Performance Listing

For a long time. I wanted to just sit down for a good day and try a range of drivers (Both official and custom/third party) using the FINAL FANTASY XI Benchmark 3 software with a compatible and well-working videocard.

I thought it would be interesting to post my results here for those that were interested also.

Note: I used Driver Cleaner.NET & Ccleaner between driver uninstalls, etc.

As you can see, the newer the drivers became. The more lossy and degraded performance overall.

In the upcoming month I'll be doing more tests like this. With newer cards like the "4870", and also a few different Nvidia models.

Please take notice, these tests I'm doing aren't for compatibility issues. But rather for performance testing only.

edit: Also a good link for anyone interested out there in different builds/FFXI bench numbers as a reference.

Thanks, I should be receiving an "HIS ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB IceQ4+ Turbo" near the beginning of next month from the manufacturer for testing purposes only.

HIS seemed very eager and happy to let me borrow a few of their select models "one at a time" for this performance testing process with first, and third party drivers pertaining to ATi cards and Final Fantasy XI.

    I'll keep in touch.~

Wait, they just sent a card out to you like that? And they are making third party drivers for XI?

Testing purposes/review card only. The third party drivers I'm using are Omega; (semi-discontinued for now).

Still -- I'm surprised they sent you out a card so easily. What is stopping you from just keeping it? Unless they made you give them your credit card info of course...

You inquiry them you'd like to do testing on a model they produce. Give them CC info to put on hold. They send card, 30 day trial, send back before 60 day. No charge. All the request is you link source of data

Many companies do this, not just HIS/ATi. PC Power & Cooling actually promotes it via email newsletter.

edit: Some clause say no overclock, cooler removal, modification to stock etc. Always read the fine lines.

Still doing testing, being much more thourough this time with different testings relating to overlay. Since at the moment this is affecting the 4870 more than it was the x1800xt fps-wise.

    I'll have an update soon.
