FFXI Dual installation help

Basically... I have Japanese FFXI installed. But occasionally I feel like using the english version since my reading skills in Japanese are not perfect.

I am running windows 7


I took NA POL and installed it on an external hard drive. It runs fine. Then, I took FFXI and copied it to the external drive. Then I changed all the registry files for my NA build of FFXI to point towards all the correct areas.

So everything looks like it is set up correctly... however... when I attempt to play the NA version of FFXI, it does not work. The play Online menu looks good. But as soon as I try to log into the game I get an error telling me that the installation path is wrong.

Upon further research, I found out that after the WoG release, square caught onto people having dual installations, and basically made having dual installations more difficult.



Is there a way to have dual English and JP installations of FFXI? Has a work around been found? Or is it simply not possible at this time?

Well, a workaround could be to create a batch file to switch registry keys, then start up said version of the game.

Basically, you'd need to get the copies of their registry entries, get their values & paths, then make a .reg file (A clickable file that injects keys into the registry) and just use the designated file for the version of FFXI you plan to use for that session.

Well, I kinda half way understand what you are saying here.

In the registry there are two separate entries

PlayOnlineUS

PlayOnline


PlayOnlineUS currently points to the installation path located on my external

PlayOnline Currently Points to the installation path on my regular Hard Drive.



So... I am not exactly sure what you are saying here. Are you saying to change the installation path for PlayOnline towards the second installation when Need be?


Essentially I am asking, what paths am I needing to switch when?
