Sammy Sosa photos are circulating the Internet and drawing myriad opinions and speculations. Some early photos of Sammy Sosa reveal a clearly defined deep- chocolate brown skin, the product of his Dominican Republic heritage. The current photos reveal a startling change as Sammy Sosa looks pale. The big unveil was made public when Sammy Sosa appeared at the Latin Grammy awards.


Speculation has circulated that Sammy Sosa has Vitiligo and is undergoing skin bleaching treatments. It has been reported that Sosa is undergoing a skin rejuvenation process that caused the skin lightening. Others speculate that Sosa has developed a skin reaction to steroid use. The New York Times had previously reported that Sammy Sosa had tested positive for steroids earlier this year. Currently, there is no known link between steroid use and Vitiligo. Topical prescription steroids are commonly prescribed to treat Vitiligo.


If Sosa is dealing with Vitiligo, skin bleaching is a common treatment that is used to even out the skin. In the video below a comment is made with reference to Michael Jackson, however, some would find that comment to be uncouth. The remark “Don’t worry, he’s not trying to be Michael Jackson,” is actually inappropriate as it has been verified through Michael Jackson’s dermatologist that he was dealing with Vitiligo; a condition that affects the pigmentation of the skin and leaves the skin discolored and with splotches of varying hues. Michael Jackson admitted to the public that he had Vitiligo and found it to be devastating to his emotional well-being, yet he was continually vilified for the sudden change in his skin.


Should Sammy Sosa be undergoing the same condition, it would be better to speak out about Vitiligo and those who suffer from the condition than to continue vilifying those who had the condition like Michael Jackson. Reports state that Michael Jackson had his infamous glove developed to hide the loss of pigmentation on his hand.

He said he's going through some skin rejuvenation nonsense and that the photo merely exaggerated the results, bad pic etcetcetc. Was posted up in the MLB thread a week back. Took me a couple of minutes to recognize who it was when I first saw the pic.

Looks like the guy really is bleaching his skin. He has admitted to it and is looking to endorse the skin bleaching product.

Sammy Sosa joked on Tuesday about possibly marketing the skin lightening product that has caused an international stir.

Today the former Cubs slugger said he is not joking.

"If he feels it is of good quality, it may be something he will be endorsing and marketing in the United States in the near future," said Rebecca Polihronis, the former Cubs community relations employee, who spoke on behalf of Sosa. Polihronis said Sosa told her today he is not yet prepared to release the name of the product.

For the past couple of months, Sosa has been using the cream that he picked up in Europe, ostensibly to soften his sun-damaged skin.

Asked if Sosa, who turns 41 on Thursday, is pleased with the results of the cream to this point, Polihronis said: "So far he is."

Polihronis is not certain how Sosa came upon the product in the first place.
"He has been traveling all over the world," she said. "He could have met somebody anywhere. He is an actual ambassador for the Dominican Republic. He has been working with them to bring new businesses and help the unemployment rate in the Dominican. If he decides to bring (the product) over, he will let everybody know exactly what it is and how people can get it."
