I need a good Avi -> DVD Format Converter

I don't torrent all that much. But I just finished downloading a movie that I want to burn onto a DVD.

The file format I downloaded is .avi

I'm having trouble finding a free converter, and wanted to see if there was one available. If I have to torrent a converter, which one should I look for.

I picked up a free one online last night (can't think of the name off the top of my head). It asked me what file type I wanted to convert to. There was two dvd choices, NTSC and (I think) PAL?

I chose NTSC, after burning the DVD onto a DVD+R disk it just kept coming up with an error on my dvd player. The dvd player is a cheap 2 year old dvd player, not sure if that makes a difference or not.

If you're just looking for something to use this one time, you could grab the trial versions of Sony Vegas and DVD Architect off the Sony website.

Sony Creative Software - Vegas Pro, Vegas Movie Studio, and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition

They each have a 30 day trial and no limitations as far as I know.

Does the 30 Day trial version of the sony software put watermarks over everything?

+1 for convertXtoDVD. If you don't want to pay for it, just torrent it.

I'll torrent it when I get home from work.

Am I correct in my procedure though.

Just convert the file and then burn it to a dvd+r?

    DVD Flick

I use that one all the time (its free), works great. I've burned about 15 or so dvds with it... every single one worked with my dvd players. Incredibly easy to use when you figure out the menu, which you should be able to do on your first try. I honestly use it as an all-in-one to convert and burn the DVD.

edit: >.> I almost sound like an advertisement.

Near as I can tell, the 30 day trial leaves no watermarks anywhere - I used it for a couple projects I was working on during the school year while I was waiting on my actual copy of the software to arrive.

Yeah thats the standard process. For some reason my sony dvd player won't like any of my burnt dvd's yet my other ones do. Maybe its a security "feature."

    Thanks again for the help.

Downloaded the ConvertXtoDVD Torrent that came with a Keygen. Works great.

Now to burn the DVD and see if it actually works lol.

Yeah ConvertXtoDVD is a godsend, I remember back when I wanted to watch Battle Royale with my g/f so bad.. I searched the internets for like an hour trying to find some decent program and stumbled across that one, it worked like a charm. I didn't think it would run because they had one of those really low end tiny DVD players that barely look like CD players. So it's compatibility is pretty vast.

ConvertXtoDVD worked fantastically. I used it to burn the Dvd as well and everything played just fine.

Thanks again for the heads up.

    Bit of a bump.

I got ConvertXtoDVD off reading this post. Question I have, as not being too computer literate, is how can I erase a RW dvd disc afterwards? Going to assume I need a separate software to do that and I already deleted Nero after getting ConvertXtoDVD.
