Crashed on teleport

Accidentally posted this originally in the wrong forum, so sorry for double-posting it. Not sure on the etiquette of whether it would be moved or deleted or what. I couldn't find any other threads with a problem like this so I apologize if one exists.

Has anyone else ever had a problem where FFXI crashed when they were teleporting, and then the game crashed every time they tried to log that character back in? I was teleporting from Windurst to Cape Terrigan at the time, and now it crashes at the black "Downloading data..." screen at about the time when it should load me in.

I can log in my other characters just fine, and did a couple GM calls hoping they could move my character back to Windy while it's r0'd, but they said they can't. They're only advice was to wait until Monday and talk to tech support (of course, this happens Saturday morning).

I'd been able to teleport fine up until then. Right before this I'd come from Whitegate, and had just gone to Saruta and back to get signet. It happens whether or not I'm using Windower, so its not a plugin issue.

I did a file check, which the GM suggested, and it did find a corrupt file, but file repair didn't fix it. I deleted the file and got a new copy from a friend (I'm NA, he's UK, dunno if that makes a difference), and file check says everything's fine now, but it still happens. The file was ROM4\4\0.DAT, but I don't know what that would have been.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Am I fucked until Monday? Is this something that might be fixable on my end?

sometimes it's just lag, other times it may be an emergency zone issue. There is not much you can do every blue moon this happens to me, just try again at a later time.

I had this happen once while 2 boxing. I just logged on a mule then me and it worke fine.

Same thing happened to me on ps2. Just logged in on roomates PC and worked fine.

Can happen if you have corrupted files for that area. I recall having issues in sky once upon a time similar to this. Try a file check to be sure all your dats are ok. Mine was a music file issue though, so not sure what would be corrupted since there isn't anything particularly unique to Terrigan with terrain/sound.

Happened to me before. You can try waiting a few days, or have someone move your char.

Probably had a terrorist in party. They like causing/attempting to cause crashes I hear.

Thanks all for the feedback. I'd been to Terrigan before, but not since the last update, so I don't know why it had decided to act up now.

The problem must have been a corrupted .dat somewhere that file check didn't find, but a complete reinstall seems to have helped. In hindsight, I probably should have just tried reinstalling RoZ first, but it seems to be working now.

ZoneAlarm antivirus actually use to crash me when going into Sky. it didnt like one of the .dat files used by sky... but that was like 04/05 era

I agree with this. If you have someone else on a different connection move your character to a different zone the issue is almost always immediately rectified.

This happened to me today, and an ipconfig /flushdns worked fine.

I will say the only crashes I've had since going to the newest windower version is when I teleport while 2boxing(I'm on Vista), it's not every time, generally just after I get done with an extensive XP/Merit session, but it happens relatively often. Sometimes it's just one of the two sessions, sometimes both.

Strangely, the file in question is related to Aht Urhgan Whitegate. As has been said however, I've seen the problem you described being caused by missing expansion. Glad to hear it worked out.
