Electric Toothbrushes

I've pretty much stuck with the old fashioned way of brushing one's teeth over the course of my life so far, but recently someone was saying how glad they were they made the switch to electric. I had a "Crest Spinbrush" put aside... my mom gave it to me a while back as a stocking stuffer - but I just stuck with regular toothbrushes. I decided to try it out.

I actually felt it did do a great job.

But, the damn thing is so loud. It's like I have a fucking beehive in my mouth. It woke up my roommate from a sound sleep. And if you hit a tooth with the plastic part, it gives it quite the rattle.

I'm tempted to stick with electric now, but I want something that handles a bit better, and doesn't make so much damned noise.

That in mind, are the higher end models (Sonic Care, etc) worth their price tag? Is there anything else feature-wise that makes them worth while?

Sonicare are the only ones I know where dentists won't shut up when they tell you how great they are. I'll have to agree, it's like a visit to the dentist every morning. It literally blasts your teeth and gums with awesomeness. Worth the money.

seconded! Ive got the sonicare flex care. It's much smaller than the elite model and has adjustable intensity. There's no comparison between the crest spinbrush and a sonicare. The crest one is nothing more than a glorified manual brush. Spend $160 on a toothbrush and people think you're crazy.. but its well worth it. If you cant afford the best, the elite models are pretty good as well, but only have 1 setting. The one that they now sell in the packages with the replaceable batteries arent as powerful as the rechargable models.. keep that in mind
