I didn't see a thread and I'm not using the broke ass search function. Did anyone else pick this up? What do you think of it in comparison to the first one? I snagged it yesterday on a whim and I played it the majority of the day.
If you're on the fence about picking the game up here's a list of the good and the bad.
The Bad
Teammate AI is pretty bad. Issuing commands is a crapshoot. Sometimes your teammate will do what you want them to do. Other times they will be laying in a pool of their own blood after they mysteriously decided to advance instead of holding their position like you wanted them to.
Secondary weapons are now limited to handguns only. In the first one you could use smaller submachine guns as a secondary weapon(MP5 for example.) There are only three choices in hangduns as well with very little customization available on them.
Sub Boss troops. You will learn to hate these guys because they force you to rely on the shakey teammate AI to beat them. So far I've come across four different guys wielding a flamethrower, shotgun, grenade launcher, and chain gun. The shotgun guys are fairly easy to deal with. You need multiple headshots to take them down. The other three are a bitch because you need to circle around behind them and shoot their backpacks to kill them. With a human partner, no problem. With the AI partner, prepare to start from a checkpoint. A lot.
The Story as of so far is kind of nonexistent. Granted I'm still only five or six hours in, but there has been remarkably little story in that time. I still have absolutely no idea why things are occurring and the main antagonist has yet to even be introduced.
The Good
Hostages. You come across multiple hostages during the game. You can either save them or ignore them entirely or kill them. Saving them grants you bonuses to your reputation and will sometimes give you nonpurchaseable weapon parts for specific guns.
Morality choices are now involved in the game. Depending on what you choose(whether a security guard lives or dies) will impact what happens in the game. They show what happened to the person involved in a comic book style cutscene. So basically you find out almost immediately whether or not you should have saved the guy or let him go. There's no real benefit to doing this, but it just adds a little more depth to the game as well as some minor changes. For example the security guard won't allow you to take the weapons in a weapons locker. If you kill him you take the weapons and move on. If you put them back you see the enemy give the guard a duffel bag of cash and they then take the weapons to use against you.
Weapon customization. If you're a parts and pieces type of guy, you'll love this. Every single gun has multiple upgrades from the barrel, stock, magazine, scope, fixtures, and paint. Don't have enough money for a silencer? You can use a sode can. No money for a bayonet? Slap a screwdriver on that bad boy. It's entirely possible to slap an AK-47 barrel onto an MP5 with a drum magazine, soda can silencer, and a kitchen knife bayonet. It's pretty damn funny how far you can take the Frankenstein combinations.
The action in the game is nonstop. The gunfights are fairly intense when you're as outnumbered as you usually are. Enemy NPC's make good use of cover and sometimes you don't even see them until you're getting shot in the back. Melee attacks spice things up a bit with their brutality.
Overall I would give it a 7.5 - 8 just based on playing it yesterday. If the story never really materializes that number is going to drop. If anyone picks this up and wants to play co-op for 360 let me know. Tag is Badumshaloooop.
