    Making PS2 wireless

I've played FFXI for a long time but then took a long break & now wish to return. Problem is that the current network in the place I moved to is wireless and I'm not in the position to ask the people I live with to drill a hole down to my floor of the house just to play FFXI.

I took the liberty of looking around for options but I'd like a few recommendations to make my PS2 wireless. Right now playing on PC is not an option as my laptop really isn't strong enough for it (bought it a long time ago used).

We have a WPA2 network if it's any help.

    Thanks in advance.

A wireless access point should do the trick.

I found a couple on Newegg, but I can't link due to post limit. Many were ridiculously expensive, but there were some for $50-60. Basically, you would connect the PS2 Network Adaptor into the Wireless AP and then you could connect to the router. You are probably going to need access to the router (it belongs to a roommate?) to forward ports/configure DMZ.

Just make sure, when selecting an AP that it has WPA2 capability.

Personally I have my PS2 wired but that's just cause the router is in my room, so no 30 ft cable runs.

But yeah pretty much what aGhast said, PS2 + Wifi Access point = Wireless PS2

What you need is actually called a wireless bridge. Anything you use has to plug into the ethernet port on the back fo the Network Adapter, and a bridge relays datbetween ethernet cable and wireless, or any other type of wire. The ones on the market now are for N, and tend to be about $100.

5 years or so ago, they were G for about $100, and the model you could easily find was a Linksys WGA54G (wireless gaming adapter).

Here are Linksys' wireless bridge offerings.

For the enterprising networker on a budget, another option is to load an open firmware distribution such as DD-WRT on a supported wireless router. If you have one handy, this is often cheaper (sometimes free), and is well-enough documented that it's not too much trouble if you read and follow the directions. I've used both Linksys' WET54G and a DD-WRTed WRT54G, and both perform comparably, but one was a lot cheaper!

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

That's what I used to use when I played on the ps2, expensive, but I can say it worked (annoying to setup, but once it is never had any issues with it.
