i have war80 and mainly use it as tank, where should i focus? stats wise.

in pvps raids dungeons.. etc

Gem defense to cap. Post cap, meet your meta's requirements, if met: 30/51stam in every socket forgoing socket bonuses afaik

Sad this is because of how high the gear is these days (as long as you're picking up Tier 9 and epic 200+ gear), you don't really need to gem for Defense anymore. But yeah, once you hit the defensive cap and gem towards the Austere Earthsiege Diamond, go pure Stamina.

You need to gem for defense at times if you're using t10 chest and/or crafted ICC legs. I still need another upgrade or two before I can go back to using non-defense enchant on my chest. 538 defense, resil keeping me uncrittable XD

Mostly this. Try and grab some Expertise gems (10 exp/15sta) if you're not at the Expertise cap or anywhere near it. Sometimes I try to go for a set bonus like on pants if they give +12 stamina as a socket bonus but honestly spamming stamina is legit and effective. Just make sure you have 25-26 Expertise and are Hit capped.

correct me if am wrong.. but isnt ~1414 resil =~ -33% dmg reduction and -66% enemy crit chance?

seems pretty nice, after caping it one would go to DEF rate and STAM..

i'd like to hear the whys , not just follow lead blindly.

Resilience only has damage reduction against other players, not against monsters. The only effect resil has against monsters is the crit reduction, but you only need 5.6% crit reduction total and any more is useless, tank gear usually gets you that much, so resil normally has zero effect on PvE.

Uh, 540 is the defense cap, that doesn't equate to defense rating. You need like 685 rating to reach that value.

The rating converts to a tooltip value on your character sheet like Expertise does. You need to reach a tooltip value of 540 Defense, which equates to 685ish Defense rating.
