My only problems is she can't seem to decide if she's American or Australian. She switches every 5 lines. If she picked one or the other, we'd be cool.

I disagree, I think her accent is just not very potent until it comes to certain words like "don't" or "hope" where it feels like an R slipped in there somehow.

Perhaps most of her "hiding her accent" shit people are hearing is actually meaningful to her character. Think about it. Fang doesn't give a shit and has nothing to hide. Vanille has many reasons to hide her origins until late in the game.

Like Mioko said she's pretending to be from Cocoon at the start of the game. Therefore her trying to sound American makes sense. And if you notice later in the game when she stops telling lies her Aussie accent is more pronounced

I wouldn't have a problem with it. The thing is, she's ALWAYS talking. None of the other characters from what I've noticed are like that. Maybe its just because she stands out the most.

She most definitely squeaks and grunts a LOT while no one else really does. So yeah, I'll give you that one. But, that mostly only bugs me because female voice acting in japanese media always gasp/squeak/breathe/etc wayyyy too loud and wayyyy too much.

FF13 was extremely good about breaking that cultural wall and makes the game feel more like our natural speech. They actually bothered to fix every bit of lip-syncing in-game and in-fmv, and there wasn't one "it can't be helped" translation.

The only thing I can think of besides Vanille's squeakiness that was poor translating was Snow getting down on all fours, on his fists, bowing in shame.

Personally, I love her accent. I do have to say, I didn't notice much when the Sazh specific banter left. I swear other characters say similar things to each other over the course of time. Just have to have the opportunity. Personally, I didn't think she spoke too much in combat compared to the others. Granted, I used Fang/Light/Hope alot and most of the combat banter was from Fang. (Who I still mistake her voice actor for Claudia Black, I swore in the beginning it was her.)

She says the same thing, everytime she does Provoke, and if there's a lot of mobs, it's real fucking annoying.

The whole overly suggestive moaning/squeaking is what I dislike most about anything Japanese. It makes me extremely uncomfortable around others.
