Getting past the blind spot jokes for a minute, this is a basic concept on an amazing level, but the whole blind people with sonar thing is nothing new. There's a really old study... I don't remember the exact details but basically they had blind and not-blind (but blindfolded) people walk towards a wall and stop before they hit the wall. If their footsteps made a clear sound, the blind people tended to stop closer to the wall without actually hitting it than the blindfolded individuals, but when they repeated the experiment in socks on carpet, the two groups performed almost identically. Amazing story though, his body adapted to his sightloss and he was able to use sound to see. It's sad to hear he died, how did it happen?

I don't understand how he was able to play Pokemon by just using sound. o_O

Well, in RGBY (1st gen) if your char walks into a wall you can hear a "bump" noise, if that accounts for anything.
