Epic Mickey "A fantastical dystopian Magic Kingdom"

    http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...tle_side02.jpg

Epic Mickey, the forthcoming (and now more or less confirmed for the Wii) project from Austin-local studio Junction Point.

Alright, I can't recall ever hearing anything about this game until now.

Gallery: the broke-down steampunk dystopian Magic Kingdom of Epic Mickey | Offworld

The project -- a trip through a fantastical dystopian Magic Kingdom -- is being headed by former Deus Ex designer Warren Spector, whose studio was acquired by Disney in 2007 (and who explained why this was such a perfect match in an interview with me at the time). The game was first confirmed to exist last December, when similar images were discovered by artist Gary Glover, including the 'beach attack' above, with its unbelievable Seven Dwarves tea-cup diggers.

Behind the fold, then, more images from both Gambino and Glover, covering rotted Epcots, foreboding Cinderella castles, terrifying scorpion-like mecha-Country Bears, and more -- all of which come with the obvious caveat that they may or may not reflect anything of the current state of the project.
Warren Spector at the helm could lead to very good things, and a Dystopian Steampunk Magic Kingdom sounds like win, unless it falls into the Kingdom Hearts "not playing a Disney game" category with gamers.

Only concept art around so far apparently, but damn if it isn't nice art.

Last Disney game I played was Mickey Mouse on the Sega Genesis. This looks pretty cool based on the concept art.

A Wii game? I wonder how all that cool concept art is going to look in-game.

This is being done by Harvey Smith, if this combination wasn't odd enough. He could pull off a really good game.

EDIT: Harvey Smith was behind Deus Ex and SS2

It's early days still, or looks that way at any rate.

Hopefully the game can do justice to the amazing concept art, though like BRP I'm interested to see just how it will look on a Wii. Art kind of makes me wish it was on 360/PS3 just for the insane graphics and environments you could pull out for a steampunk game.

I'm just hoping they can get away with a steampunk dystopia version of Disney and that Disney doesn't "nice it up" or worse, cancel it.
Maybe now that it's out there we'll get more info on this.

Wish there were higher res versions of some of that art too. Would make for awesome backgrounds.

I'll almost definitely pick this up, though I'm a little disapointed this is on the wii, I usually hate how games turn out on the wii as most try to incoporate the gimicky motion controls (Brawl is the only wii game I've played that doesn't do this, and thus the only Wii game I like).

I like the look of this a lot as well. I think my favorite is between Goofy and what I guess is Dumbo. Really awesome interpretation.

News: Epic Mickey details arise - ComputerAndVideoGames.com
CVG has learnt that the game is indeed called Epic Mickey and it's being worked on by ex-Deus Ex man, Warren Spector at his Junction Point studio. But the internet already seems to know that.

We've since been told that it's a Wii-exclusive where you paint your way through levels using the Wii Remote. This 'painting your way' involves you drawing, etching and erasing whole or parts of levels as you go. Capcom's Okami immediately springs to mind but we've not got enough info to go on to make any kind of informed judgement.

As for the story, we've also been told that it'll be based around very old and/or forgotten Disney characters who are out to get their revenge on Mickey, presumably because they're jealous of all his fame and fortune. We Googled 'early Disney characters' and found that Oswald the Lucky Rabbit returned a lot of hits. A bit before even CVG's time all that though.

So not much to go on. We've contacted Disney about the extra info but don't really expect any confirmation as the game's still unannounced. But looking at the concept art, we're quietly excited already. There's plenty more guesswork to be found on NeoGaf.

    [IGN link removed]

Looks like more news of a new Disney (Mickey) game is gonna be announced next month by Disney Interactive. Since no platform has been announced, it's potentially for any/all/some of the consoles, but IGN has a picture of the invitation w/looks rather grim-of-sorts for a Disney game (is that blood?), so maybe it will be more on Epic Mickey?
