A guide on OtherWiki suggested that "receive training" in "repair furnace" "raises the amount of health restored when repairing the furnace." I tried this with level 0 furnace repair, and noticed no gain in the furnace's HP bar. So...

does one have to received training, or even max out training in furnace repair for it to make a difference?
is it that the HP bar on the furnace is going down faster than "repair furnace" can keep up with?
...or is this apocryphal? and "repair furnace does something entirely different? if so, what?
does anyone have "repair furnace" maxed out? is it worth it? (I went with pressure handle myself, and it takes off -50% pressure)

Should "repair furnace" be unworthwhile, forgive me but, "What's better? Thwacking or Safety Handle?"

Im at level 4 repair, at level 0 it just slows down the hp loss, at level 1 it stalls briefly, once you hit he level 2~3 mark it'll repair a bit but its like 1%, at level 4 when I repair it it'll regen back up 3%ish and then start decreasing again.

When combined with my carpenter's smock I can get it to regen a good 5~6% at least, sometimes a bit more.

While on the synergy topic, what skills do people train?

I think about everyone maxes out Fewell Feeding first thing, though that may go without saying. Has anyone NOT done this?

As i said, I maxed out Pressure Valve, worth it. -50% pressure on average

I maxed these two then did nothing with my other possible trainings. I was wondering if SE may add more options to the furnace, not yet though.
