    Plumbing Problem

Well I've spent my entire weekend messing with my plumbing and I figure I'd use the internet before I call an actual plumber and rape my wallet. Earlier my kitchen sink backed up like a mofo and I couldn't do anything to get it unclogged. Checked it next day and eventually everything went down the drain. Problem now is it seems if more than a liter of liquid goes down drain then it clogs back up again. I snaked all the way down to the basement and found that the water gets clogged all the way at the bottom where a cleanout is. I took off the cleanout cap and snaked there, but only got about 12 inches down until it stops. A bunch of black vile disgusting shit came out but still clogged. Anyone got suggestions? So far I've only come up with renting an electric auger and trying that.

Note: I know I'm probably gonna have to just hire a plumber but I figure I'll give BG a shot.\

Pics below, snake stopped going shortly after cleanout where it looks like it goes under the basement floor

Totally not what I thought this thread was going to be about.

    Carry on.

It's most likely just a lot of build up at where it goes in to your septic, or worse there could be a crack there and roots are getting it.

Call your local plumbing company (ACE for example) and ask them to have them clean out your pipes with their high pressure water jet and reverse flow nozzle. If you have these yourself, you can do it, but it's just simplier to have them do it. It will cost about 100$ roughly.

If this works, but it happens again months down the road, you mostly likely have a cracked pipe, in which case you can get them to bring a camera in to see what the problem is.

Had an issue with house #2 my parent bought. We got to the cleanout -> septic with same black mess built up and it turned out to be what Seph described. The series of toooobs was cracked and it was full of rotting tree roots.

Luckily this was discovered within weeks of the purchase so they were able to get it taken care of by the original owners for free.

Sounds like I'm boned then. Bought house about 9-10 months ago. Wonder if insurance covers this? Anyone know how much it would cost if there were roots in pipes?
