    Video Cards: 1gb or 2gb?

So google is failing me and I can't find any good advice on tech sites. Is 1gb adequate for someone who only runs one display at 1920x1200? I typically upgrade/build a new pc every 2ish years so I don't need something super futureproof. It was my understanding that 2gb cards were mostly reserved for people running super high resolution / multimonitor setups. What do you guys think?

Yeah, 1G is plenty. I run dual 26' monitors on a 1G, and it runs cool.

Alot of games won't even be using the full 1GB, so 2GB is really just a way to squeeze more money out of people that don't pay attention.

pretty much need to be at 2560x1600 with a decent multisample before you'll push 1G, so the 1G should be plenty if you have a single display at 1920x1200

If its for gaming, don't get hung up on Video Ram size. GPU model is significantly more important.

Do keep in mind that AA plays a factor as well since it requires ram. Just because a game isn't capping the ram on the card doesn't mean adding AA won't.

Basically, if you have 2560x1600 or higher, 2GB.

    If not...anything less.

I game on 2560x1600 and 1gb will max out on some games at max settings.

I'm not aware of any games that would cap out 1GB at 1920x1200 even with 8xAA, but yes, that's an important point.
