    A thread about performance.

    First my specs.

    Phenom II 955 quad @3.2ghz
Radeon 4870x2 (twp gpu single board)
    4 gigs DDR3 1333 ram
    Windows 7 x64

All of my Cataclyst settings are set to application controlled with Adaptive AA turned off.

My WTF config file I've messed with setting processaffinity, m2faster, timing methods, gxtexture caches etc.

I run 1920*1200 with all settings maxed except shadows are halfway. I'm pretty happy with my FPS over all BUT in 25 man raids I take a pretty huge hit. Flying around Icecrown I get like 60-90fps, areas with a lot of trees and fog, like near grizzly hills and northern Howling Fjord I drop into the high 30s s. In 25 man raids, in combat I drop to 20-30 fps especially if its a big pull with a lot of AOE. I would really like to keep my fps consistently high and smooth while raiding in 25 mans. 20-30 fps is definitely playable, but I can really notice a difference in how smooth it is

I've thought about upgrading to an i7 when I get the money too, any one run an i7 at high resolutions? What kind of performance do you see in 25mans?

I'm hoping to see Cata bring some game engine upgrades, I'd really prefer not upgrading if I don't have too. I feel like I really shouldn't have too get such a powerful machine to run this game better 25s.

Do you have an antivirus that is not set to ignore the WoW process? It was always what hit me biggest on my laptop (till I figured out that was it, durr)

WoW doesn't take advantage of 2 processor GPU/Crossfire/SLI right?

Ya I eventually tried this with seemingly no difference.

I don't think so. I've monitored my gpu loads and I have only seen it get to 70% on one of them while the other sits unused. I've never seen the one being used go above 70% either, which isn't a problem because my FPS every where but raids is fine.

I've also tried disabling my combat log and ditching addons which doesn't make a difference. I don't think WoW takes advantage of current technology very well so I'm probably expecting too much out of what I have. That is why I thought of upgrading to an i7 when I get the chance but I think it would be pretty ridiculous to need to do that for such an old game.

lol, you don't need i7 for WoW. QuadCore is more than enough. I also have a Quad, Q9550 and I have ATI 5850 and have no problem with lag at all. Usually 60+ and 40ish fps in 25 man. WoW is an old game and you should be doing fine with your card not sure what the problem is either your pc is slow/virus or some sort of bottleneck like I had with my old dualcore PC.

Edit: Do you have Vsync on btw? This might cause your pc to lag abit.

Nah no Vsync enabled. My fps is fine every where except 25man raids really, and Dalaran of course. In 25s I take a pretty huge hit and drop into the 20s and 30s. Its playable that way and thats probably better than what a lot of people get but it would be nice to keep a solid 40+ while raiding.

I had a lot of trouble with that card and had to replace it.

I run a e8500 c2duo @ 3.8 and max settings in raids. Sister has an i5 not oc'd and her 5580 or 5750 whichever it is also runs maxed.

Is your cpu idling? do you have that setting turned off in bios?

    480

Game is cpu dependent, get a good overclock going and it might fix the problem. That upped my performance more than anything else.

I have AMD Coon n Quiet disabled in the bios, as well as Core Parking in the registry. My power management is set to high performance. I have thought about replacing this video card with a gtx 460 though.

I over clocked to 3.6, 3.7 is unstable. I don't wanna up the voltages because this cpu runs really warm and I have not been able to get its temps lowered. It runs 40c idle, I've re done the thermal paste multiple times, redid my heat sink and even bought a new case with much better air flow. I run 58c full load, (only 4 under threshold) and about 50c playing WoW. I've thought this might be my problem but I am running under threshold.

I get about 15-25 on my HD 5870 in 25 on ultra with but it dips when in tighter spaces... IMO don't expect miracles the game is really CPU dependant and yes you're doing alot better than most like you expected. I couldnt really raid well in ultra on my8800gt relic. Q6600 3.0ghz btw.
