Changing Static IP addresses to Dynamic

So I'm trying to watch a few old television shows through megavideo and the whole 54 minute cool down time is getting annoying. Unfortunately my IP address is static so I can't just reset my modem and continue watching said show.

So what I want to know is how to get a dynamic ip address or a proxy that works with megavideo. I'm using a Comcast modem and a netgear wireless router.

Changing the mac address of your modem might get you a different IP, or it might cut off your service all together.

Not really going to happen since it's your ISP that handles that, as you pointed out you could go through a proxy but put up with lowered performance (don't even think about public proxies) or just buy a megaupload premium (worth it if you watch/download a lot)

The answer will vary from isp to isp as usually they all have different setups.

    1) It could just be as simple as ringing your isp up and asking for a change. Unlikely though, as in my expeirence if they support dynamic ip address, that is the default choice unless you specifically ask for static.

    2) As the first guy said, changing your mac address might help.

    3) Some ISP's like to map an ip to your username string. This might help as your username that your router logs in with can have different formats. E.g. if your username was "Bob" and your isp was "someisp" you could try

    bob
    bob@someisp
    [email protected]

and all 3 would have different static ip addresses.

Their's probably a bunch of other tricks you could try, but really the best solution is to ring up your ISP, and if they say no then google them up and see if their are any tricks, and failing that, switch isp

    BAD IDEA.

Usually static IP customers have no port blocking- however I know for a fact *cough*Iworkforamajorisp'soutageteam*cough* that some ISPs block ports on their dynamic customers- and have more stringent guidelines as far as bandwidth usage. Now then, I suggest finding a proxy service that gives you the option to mask your IP address- perhaps Foxyproxy?

You could try entering your router's configuration and simply resetting the connection/disconnecting and reconnecting (the actual connection to your ISP) via whatever menu netgear uses for that to see if your ISP will simply lease a new IP to you. It isn't sure-fire, but it's worked for me in the past with Rapidshare limitations.
